Playing with poo My baby Molly is now 7 months, I got her from a breeder when she was 5 months old. She wasn't house trained at all (but I'm working on this and she is slowly getting better). I have her in an xpen while I'm at work. I wanted her to have freedom to move around since I work full time. She has her water, etc in with her but no food in the pen since she won't eat while I'm gone. Anyway, she moves her potty pad into a corner of the pen and gets poop EVERYWHERE! on herself, on the walls next to the pen, on the floor in little smushed hard pieces, I mean it is GROSS! And this has been going on since I got her. I thought it would get better but so far no luck. I tried feeding her pineapple but she won't eat it. She will eat the chewable stop eating poop pills but it still doesn't stop her from playing with it like crazy. I tried giving her more space (ie the entire bathroom, and she just managed to get more poop all over) I take her on regular walks, I give her a lot of attention, I take her with me places when I can... I just don't know what else to do! Help... Will she grow out of this??? :( I'm not expecting her to hold it all day, but just not turn the bathroom into a huge mess? |
I don't know but I hope someone else will have an answer to your question. Mine used to eat his poop when he was a pup but he stopped after we distracted him each time he poops with a good boy potty treat. |
Mine does this too, she had stopped for some time when we changed her food. But then again when we changed it she started again and then I started college. I think she does it out of boredom when we are away all day long. She won't do it when we are at home. It's tough on a yorkie to be 10 hours a day on its own. It's only 3 days a week now, but stil, she gets bored. This may be the problem, if you have relatives, who would watch her during the day when you are away, it would probably help. When I am at home with her she never does it, just when we are out all day. I am also trying to break the habit in her, but it's hard. |

Ours did until we put them on a food that has no grain in it. They haven't eaten poo for months. I read somewhere (& correct me if I am wrong) that they eat their poo because their food digests without much change so it smells & tastes yummy (yucky!)! |
when mine go outside she looks for other doggie poop to eat. so i try avoid letting her go in the grass. |
I watch her in the grass to and always shout Leave it! when she even spots a poop in the grass, she learned to leave it! |
I have watched a couple of trainers that catch them in the act and divert their attention to a bite of banana but you have to stay with them until you break the habit. Maybe you could get a brother or sister to keep her company. |
I Would love to get her a brother or sister to keep her company, but I am having hard enough time trying to keep up with her. |

Not sure what to recommend about the poop, but I did want to mention that it's very dangerous to leave dogs in the car during the summertime. Dogs can overheat very quickly, much more quickly than humans do. Also, if you have a pure bred dog, someone might steal her. Sorry I don't have anything helpful for the main problem. |
