Barking for nothing!! Help!! Hi, ponky is being barking for problably any noice he hears, it can be a car, people walking and talking outside my house, or just wind noices. Its sometimes ok for me but he will do it at 4am and even though when im coughing. Is he trying to say something or just trying to catch my attention? its getting some king annoying. any suggestions? |
Ahh you've got a barker! Jackson barks too but not for a cough or a small movement. Although i've been around dogs like that. My suggestion (what works for Jackson and I learned on here) is to put coins/pennies in a can and whenever he barks, shake it and say "quiet!" The loud noise totally distracts their thoughts for what they're barking at. Keep a few cans with the pennies around the house so you always have one to grab. Now, if Jackson hears someone at the door, he will bark to alert me a few times and I say "Quiet" and he usually listens. Key word- usually. But we're learning still. The can really has worked greatly though. If that doesn't work, I've heard of spray collars. I think they spray water or something when the dog barks but I've never used though. Or a little sound thing that emits noise that only the dog can hear but humans can't -can't give you any info on those either though! |
Hot Rod has been doing this lately. He knows the word "done" for when he is finished doing anything, ie, eating, his business and doing trick session, so when he goes on a barking binge, I tell him, "okay Hot Rod, done". Sometimes I may have to repeat myself a couple of times if something has really set him off but it usually works. We put in a surround sound system last year and he goes crazy over the sounds of crickets and birds. It is kinda of funny to watch him looking for the noise. |
