Uh oh ... getting too dam smart for one's own Good We're getting into a situation here ..... One of my pups They are both getting to be about 5 months old now Mike, is starting to realize Running around free is a whole lot of fun  But .... this guy who's calling me all the time? What's up with that? Mike's having serious come issues Treats .... forget it He's not really into food .... another story Squeaky toys aren't as much fun as exploring outside His brother is Perfect ... he comes when ever I call him Mike is a lost cause I really want them both to be able to run and get exercise I know how much they love running free but I can't chance him running off Who else has had this problem and has had success with a training regime? |
For his safety, I'll never let Nikko run free outside, no matter how well I think I have him trained (or not). He is learning to walk well on a leash, and we go for long walks every day. And we try to give him fenced-in opportunities to run free as well (I do love to see him get to be free in the outdoors). So far he's enjoyed the neighbor's fenced in yard, and a huge fenced-in kids baseball diamond and outfield (check out high schools near you - they often have fully fenced athletic fields, football or baseball or something). I'm hoping to find more "safe" places for him to run free in, but until then he's always on a leash when we go outside, just to be safe. We would both be completely crushed if he ran off and hurt himself... so we just don't risk it. :( Lauren & Nikko |
Oh no ... they don't run free outside I agree I think it's too dangerous They run free in the halls of my condo building They can't get hurt in any way But it's becoming annoying when one takes off and I have to chase him down |
I am having the same issue... Baxter has some very selective hearing. I have a fensed in backyard so that's not the issue it's when I call him to be in an area where I can see him (within the house) he will only come when he feels like it... I probably should give him more praise for coming when he does so I may more to blame then he is. What was helpful with baxter was having him on the his leash (which can go to 15 feet) then letting him go away from me that far then calling him and giving him a praise when he would come. Then my gf would pick him up and carry him away from me again and we would do it all over again. Hope that helps. Walter Walter |
We seem to be doing a little better today ..... :D Mike loves to be part of any activity ..... so now I call him while running away and he's right there next to me wanting to see what I'm running to we'll see how long this lasts  |
