blocked off? Should I keep my 9 and a half week old yorkie blocked off into a certian area at all times.. even when we are home? We live in a pretty small apartment, so we usually just give her free riegn of the house? not sure if we are doing the right thing or not.. |
In my opinion I wouldn't worry about it unless you are out of the house. We only put teddy in his crate or a room when he is alone (for safety reasons, no cords, chewing things he's not supposed to, potty training). We let teddy run around the house when we are home though. My boyfriends family keeps their dogs behind a gate in their home and as soon as they get into a different part of the house they are terrors, its horrible they will pee everywhere. |
Thanks sounds good! |
If you can't watch them like a hawk, then yes, I would keep them gated somewhere. If not, they will probably piss all over your house, lol. It's easiest to train them when they're crated or blocked off in a room of sorts. |
I'd keep the area they have freedom in very small at first - no more than a small room, maybe less. We used collapsed moving boxes which we taped together and then taped to walls. When he was allowed to roam free, he was in his special smallish area and we were in it with him watching him at all times. When we needed to be in a different room or area, or couldn't watch him, he went into his crate. Gradually as he learned to not pee in his tiny area, we would move the boxes back a few feet and give him a little bit more of the room, adding maybe 6 square feet at a time. At 5.5 months, my boy is not all the way potty trained yet by far, but he's definitely making good progress. Good luck... you have an awful long ways to go still for housetraining. :-) It's usually not easy or quick at all, but it's definitely worth the hard work. Lauren & Nikko |
Yes ... keep the area they are in to a min right now If you can't keep an eye on your pup at all times when they are out and about then it's too much Keep them in the area you have alotted as a play area and an area for sleep and peeing and pooping anything else is just asking for more mess and trouble they can get into |
