Reaction to No!
 
Many times when correcting Oliver, either because he was biting something, jumping, etc...he will hunker down and bark/growl. If I standup or do approach he runs away stops a few times to hunker and bark....at this point I usually put him in his crate to calm down. Not all the time, but when he knows he has done something wrong. Anyone else's dog do this? He is 13 wks old.

Oops ... you have a boisterous lil guy there .... he is trying to argue a point
I think he'll probably be fine but esp since this happens when he bites hard you need to be swift fair and stern with him
This is the kind of pup that will look for any sign of weakness or a crack in your dominance

Swift, fair, and stern when I can catch him...he almost wants to play chase at that point. He refuses to heed a call or sit command at that point. Maybe he's not mental :). It's hard to teach No, etc. when he reacts this way. I dont want to ignore his behavior and have him think he won.

If he runs away, ignore it. It seems like he is doing this for attention. He's thinking he can bite and then look at the fun game he gets to play! Mommy chases him! ;) When Layla was a puppy, she acted like this too. If she ran away I would turn my back on her and not give her the attention she wanted, so I wasn't enforcing the behaviour. I know those puppy teeth hurt! But if you give him a stern NO and stop playing when he bites, he'll eventually understand that this isn't the right way to get attention.

Fortunately biting is not a problem with me...he likes to nab at my daughters hands...his behavior mainly comes from a No when he is jumping, chewing the furniture, etc.. It's a puppy thing I'm sure just never thought they would be that spunky and try to taunt me into a fight

He's thinking it's a game
Bite Daddy or Mommy and they come and chase me ...

I think you have my dog! LOL, my Gumdrop does the same thing bite and run..she is a hand full and of course everything is a game to her and at 3 monts has a very short attention span
