Marking All The Time!
 

Sabrael is 3 years old now but we've tried puppy pads, litter box training, newspaper(paper) training, potty schedule, even keeping him in one room but he just won't stop marking everything! Is there a way to get him to stop without getting him neutered :eek:

You could always use belly bands. It would certainly save your furniture.

At 3 years old I think it would be hard to get him to stop even with him being neutered now, as he has formed a very strong habit. But neutering him would be your best chance. It would also be beneficial for his health and lower his risks for many health issues such as certain cancers...

The marking is one reasons to get them neutered before a year, after that it is really hard if not impossible to stop the marking especially if they are bred. A belly band would most likely, as already suggested would certainly help to save your house.

Uno was neutered when he was younger, and he still marks. We didn't have ANY problems marking for the longest time....then within the last few months he wants to lift his leg to ALL furniture. It's frustrating. Wish I knew how to stop it too :mad:

I am having the SAME problem with Wookie:aimeeyork right now. He is 3 years old now, and about 6 months ago he started marking. He has 3 areas in the house where he is marking. I have tried putting the pee pads down and he goes around them (I don't really want to use them anyway, I dont want him going in the house at all). I can't figure out what is going on. Have had him checked out, no infections or anything, thinking its behavioral. The vet said it could be that there is a intact female in our neighborhood that he can smell, but it has been going on for over 6 months!! We will go outside for a long walk, he will pee and mark outside all over, then come in the house and go right to one of those areas and pee a little again! Whenever I see him do it, I correct it, and take him immediately outside, but I think he is doing it when I am not looking too. When he needs to go to the bathroom, just regular peeing, he goes outside. This is just a little bit he is doing....marking!! He has been fixed, as soon as he was old enough. So he never started raising his leg, he squats and pees on the carpet! One spot is even on the hardwood floor!! (that is how I know he is doing it when I don't see him) I am gettin frustrated. I am moving into a new house next week and I don't want to carry over these bad habits!:mad:

Marking behavior tends to get worse as dogs get close to full sexual maturity around two years old. Unfortunately, by then it is an established behavior and neutering often doesn't stop it. Belly bands may be your only option at that point.
