Anyone hired Bark Busters? I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with training Trooper. He's caused Deegan to relapse into a few old bad habits and walks are not fun at all since they both bark like little maniacs whenever we pass another dog walking. I want someone to help my dh and I to train these guys some basic obedience, to walk on a loose leash at our sides, to not go crazy when other dogs are around and to completely potty train Trooper. I ran across a worldwide company called Bark Busters... They seem like they know what they're doing and credible, but are also very costly... I don't mind paying the price as long as their training does actually work. Apparently they offer a lifetime of the dogs guarentee, meaning that if old problems pop back up or new ones arise that they will come back to work with you and the dogs again free of charge, regardless of how many times it takes. So has anyone ever hired them to help you out, and if so, were you satisfied with their services? |
Can't help ya but I was curious too. I was just reading about them online but I don't know if I'm willing to spend that much money considering Jackson is not BAD by any means, I just want him to know the basic important commands, stay, come, down, etc. I signed him up for Petsmart classes but I've read mixed reviews. I could probably train him the basics myself, I just need to put a little more effort into it. |
I haven't used them but came very close. It is 100% dependent on the representatives in your area. The person/people in our area are highly recommended by vets and I would recommend them. |
A friend used them for her springer spaniel ... it worked, but didn't last, and she's now fed up with having to go back and ask for reinforcement. Very costly for what was actually achieved! (i.e. very little). |
I would firstly buy the book and/or dvd of The Dog Listener by Jan Fennell, and try some of her methods. I think you could make a big difference yourself, before paying out lots of money for someone to do what you could probably achieve yourself. Good luck. |
I have mixed feelings about them. I have never had to use them, but I had a friend of mine use them, and they werent impressed at all, they said it was a lot of money, and they didn't really spend time with the dogs, they basically were telling my friends what they were doing wrong, rather than observing the dogs behaviors. |

I have the "potty training" down with Lily! She uses pad real good and she is 10 months old now. BUT she barks terrible at EVERYTHING!! What kind of "treats" do you use to get their attention??? Do I give a "treat" in the house when she barks too?? She barks when the furnace kicks on and barks at the TV when any kind of animal is on there!!lol I didn't know that dogs knew what was on the TV screen the way she does!! She wakes up out of a sleep to bark at the TV!!! She barks horrible w/doorbells even on TV and when she is out for a walk she barks at EVERYTHING and when we see another dog and she is on a leash she goes CRAZY!!! I feel bad because she is so cute but she doesn't mind us at all. I have tried coins in a can, spray bottle etc etc. I will try ANYTHING if anyone has any suggestions. THANKS!! |
Well I've managed to get a hold of another company in my area called D.O.G. Obedience, which is also a rescue group as well AND is where Trooper went to after he was at the humane society (but not the rescue I got him from). So they do know a little about him already... They are cheaper, but that's because it's not a "lifetime" guarentee I guess. From what I told them over the phone they are recommending their Leadership Package which will address my 3 main concerns which are the potty training, the loose leash walking and correcting their aggresive barking while passing other dogs - hopefully. That package is $200 and is 4 sessions of 1 hour each. But they are coming out on Tuesday to meet with me and the pups as a free consulation to actually see if they think that they've made the right assesment. I hope all goes well - wish me luck! |

My SIL did. They taught her some techniques , but none worked on her dogs. One thing they told her was to use a chain and drop it on the floor ( so the loud noise would make them quiet) but I guess thay didn't take into account the heavy chain + hardwood floor = dents  They came back out twice for the barking , but they still bark like mad. She does have 5 so maybe it work one on one or just a couple. IDK. |
