Aggressive or normal behavior? I'm new to Yorkie talk and I have a 3 month old yorkie named Capone. He is darling and I love him, but I'm afraid his behavior is getting a little aggressive. If I reach down to pet him he will automatically try to bite my hand. I don't hit him so I don't know why he would think I'm trying to hurt him. I'm afraid if a child reaches to pet him he might bite them and really hurt a smaller kid. Another thing I need help with is he likes to run under things and usually If I call his name he usually comes running to me all the time, unless he is under something (couch, bed, etc.) He will not come to me and when I reach under to get him he tries to bite me and sometimes even growls. I have to lure him out with a treat and I feel like I'm rewarding his bad behavior. I don't know if this is normal or will be come more aggressive with time. Any suggestions? Thanks! |
When you reach down to get him is he chewing or biting because puppies chew. However when he is under neath something and you go to get him and he bites that is definitely agression. My Chachi did that one time and my Husband picked up the little couch he was under and grabbed him, flipped him over on his back, looked him in the eyes and said very sternly no biting. He never did it again. You have to do something that catches him off guard and tells him you are the pack leader not him |
He's definately biting when I reach to pet him or pick him up. I know puppies chew and if he tries to chew on my finger I distract him with a toy in an attempt to correct his behavior. I don't want it the biting to keep up, because I don't want him to bite a stranger. Thanks for the advice about hiding under things, you think it will make him afraid of me if I scold him aggressively? Normally if he's doing something bad I just say NO in a lower voice or make a startling noise with something nearby in the house. |
No I just think it will tell him you are the pack leader. I would also sign him up for puppy classes and work with him on learning commands |
Sometimes puppies see hands grabbing at them for whatever reason .... as something to be afraid of Try this instead of reaching for him try and train him to come to a palm put down on the floor I do this with my pups because I know from experience they sometimes learn to run away from aan outstretched hand and it's always better to have them come to you use the palm to the floor for now for everything that is good come to eat come get a treat and come to go outside soon he'll associate the hand with all things good and come to you when you call |
That's a really good idea! Thank you. I'm going to start trying that tonight. He learns really quickly so hopefully it will help. I've only had him about 3 weeks and he has already learned his name, come, sit, and fetch (but I say bring it) and is about 85% potty trained. |
