Two Yorkies better than one? Hello everyone! My first post to Yorkie community! I got my beloved CC in December. She has been a hand ful! My husband was not too fond of the idea, but has warmed up to her! Afterall, who can resist a Yorkie?! Anyway, Yorkies are like chips, you can't just have one! I am trying to convince him to get a little Yorkie boy to be her playmate, and later on, to breed with. Has anyone had any experience with having two Yorkies? Will it help her with separation anxiety? Thanks! :aimeeyork |
Absolutely!! I think they are great for one another. I just got another one 6 weeks ago. I think I made a great decision. My husband loves her too. They are a lot of work, but well worth it. :) |
Thanks! Now if I can just get my husband to agree! :) Where did you get your new baby? I'm in Georgia and trying to decide where to adopt from again. |

I have two litter mate boys and I can't think of having any less than two I know that dogs are pack animals and they do not do well on their own so I specifically went out and got two so that they will be company for each other when I am not around are they Double the trouble? Nah... I'd say just trouble and a half :D |
Thanks for the response! I've read this to my husband, he just kind of laughed and rolled his eyes! But I'm a firm believer that our baby will help me change his mind just as she's captured his heart! Thanks again! |
I have five.........my husband said no more after one...........than no more after two and than..........you get the idea.............they are wonderful together...all get along well and each sleep on top of the other. As far as anxiety when you leave..........it does help but you still will be rushed with love, yaps and kisses when you get home. |
Oh wow! That's so funny! I would have that many if he would let me! They have always captured my heart, I've always wanted one! He got CC for me for Christmas, and although I love her so much, I can't stop thinking about getting a little boy now! I was starting to think that I had something wrong with me! LOL! Thanks, that makes me feel better!!!!!!!!!!! FIVE! Wow! Tell the babies hi from me and CC! :) |
If you are gone a lot two yorkies are better, but I wouldn't breed just because I had two. We have a breeding forum that has excellent information, and although I never plan to breed I have learned much by reading the threads. Buying a pet for breeding is much different than buying a pet for pleasure. You must make sure the line has no inherited health risks before you start breeding. Many inherited diseases don't even show up until the dog is 3, so it's important to test the dogs before breeding. Yorkies have been over bred because of their popularity, and so this is especially important. When you breed a dog, you affect so many lives; it really is a serious responsibility. |
Congratulations on your new baby! My husband wasn't too thrilled with the idea of a dog in the house either, but now calls for her when he's ready to go to bed...ha! Of course she comes right over to Momma when I get in there. Nancy1999, that is such good advice about breeding. We bred one litter of squirrel dog pups, and it was so much more work and responsibility than I ever imagined. We got Molly fixed as soon as she was old enough so that we wouldn't be tempted to do it again. Mgraciellem, if you do decide to breed, learn as much as you can beforehand, 'cos I'm sure you want to provide a loving home for your little family. And good luck, 'cos we all know that those sweet babies are worth it! Carla |
I really want another just to keep her company, but I just love the Breed so much that I would love love to breed CC. I have several friends who want to adopt a yorkie so bad, but just don't know where to adopt from. I will def. read up on the forum though. I most def. want every Yorkie to have the best home they possibly can! I'm also worried that once I see the little ones, I'd have a hard time letting them go! Thanks for the great advice everyone! :D |
Hi, I see you live in Statesboro, Ga!! Would you mind telling me where you found your baby? I'm in Brunswick, about 100 miles from you, but my parents live in Statesboro so I am up that way fairly often. I'm having trouble finding a breeder here. I know of one in Metter, but do not have much information. |
