Help Please My little Laddy is doing great with everything except........ He won't come when called and I don't know what to do. He does all kinds of tricks on command but refuses to come when called any suggestions please. My hubby getting very frustrated with him  |
I'm with you on this one! Fiona will NOT come to me when I call her, and its very aggravating. I would try using treats and make it fun! ;) Fiona will come to me when i say LOOK! but not Fiona, come! |
ok so try this one.. this is what i do with lexi.. i learned here i say,,,,, lexi come,, wait a minute... lexi come, wait another minutes or few seconds. then i say it louder , but wait a minute.. lexiiiiiii come!!!!! ... then she comes. she takes her time if she knows im in the bathroom waiting for her so she can take a bathe, but other than that,,, she come 1 2 3. when she finally gets there,,she is praised to no end... good come lexi.. good come... thats what i do.. and it works... good luck |
i just want to add that if your dog doesnt come to you at all at that time. stop and try again another time.. you can also do it with treats.. have them come to you ..show them the treat.. back away, say come and when the dog comes say good come,,and give the treat.. they will finally get it... |
Why should they come to you when there's so much better stuff around to do? If you want them to come to you make it in there better interest for them to do so Always have a bag of treats handy for them and you can set up training exercises where you call them from across the room with the help of someone else have the other person release them and call them with a treat they can see do this from time to time so they will get the idea that when you call good things happen Be careful that you don't get them used to hearing their name at ever increasing Octives ............. |
My trainer taught me a couple of things to do: 1. call name and hold treat close to me for them to come-and say good boy/girl. 2. call name and "come" good boy/girl; wait, then "name, come good boy/girl". If this doesn't work, go and get him/her and bring back to where you were and say "come, good boy/girl" and give treat. My trainer also recommends a phrase other than come because you tend to use it many other way-i.e., come here, come on, come in, etc. You can use another word such as "front". I still use come. She says to make it exciting for him to come to you. I will keep saying "good boy/girl". I've been getting a much better response doing this. (I saw this on "It's me or the Dog") call and say come and point to the floor-if they don't come, make eye contact and point to your eyes and say come and point to the floor. Mine will usually come when I do this. Hubby does this when Hot Rod doesn't listen to him and it works everytime. We also practice this just to make sure to keep it fresh for them. |
Think you've already gotten some pretty good advise. I was just going to add, that Im not sure how old your little one is? But being consistant is important. Basically, making it a daily routine until your pup gets the hang of it :) |
