Running Away & Hiding My 5.5 month old, runs away everytime I go to him. I really feel he does it to be funny not because he's scared. Ive never done anything to scare him but it's getting annoying. If we're in the living room playing, when I am about to go to him to pick him up to either hold him, get him dressed for a walk (which he likes), bring him to another room with me or whatever it is, he runs away as if he's playing and keeps running around the coffee table so I cant get to him. And often times he picks up stuff in his mouth like my slippers, socks or whatever and I need to get it out of him, he runs and hides under the coffee table so I cant reach him so he can keep chewing. At those times, no matter if it's another toy or treats I try to lure him with - he disregards them!! The same thing with my husband, so it's not just me he does this too. What should I do???? |
Completely ignore him. Turn your back on him and walk away. (never give chase) All he's doing is trying to get you to chase and play with him. After you ignore him, he will come to you and when he does, give a very tasty tiny nibble of something like cheese. Just before you give it to him, say "come, good boy come". He will catch on very quickly to the word come. Training has to be on a positive note always. |
Charlie actualy knows "come" already. He just ignores everything when hes chewing whatever he's chewing under the table. Also my concern is if he's somehow gotten hold of something that is a hazard to him (small part of something he may choke on), my instinct is to get it out of his mouth right away so I cant just walk away and wait until he's done because he actually a lot of times eats what he's chewing on. One time he got a piece of tissue out of my jean pocket, ran away, hid under the coffee table and ate it! I COULD NOT get him at all. You're right though, it doesn't seem like he's scared. He just really like to play chase. |
