need advise please lexi is kind of wee pad trained,( sometimes.).... my cousin says i should let her learn how to go outside... lexi is 5 months old...and i dont think she can hold it in so long while im at work... how do i now train her to go outside? she never has before.... help please. how do i all of a sudden do it? i dont really know how she should be trained.... i do live in ny where it tends to go real cold...and snowy tooo... i will take any suggestions, i am totally confused . |
Maximus doesn't go outside at all...he will hold it in...I am in NY also and I don't think that it is practical for us to have them outdoor trained (solely) due to the EXTREME cold and if we aren't there all day...but I did want Maximus to learn it was okay to pee outside....our trainer suggessted gradually moving the wee wee pads towards the door (over a 2 week) time frame...when it get to the door put it outside and encourage them to pee on it outside...I thought Maximus to pee on command but he still won't go outside unless I put a pad down and that is still VERY rare!! |
thank you for your quick reply. your always the first to do so.. im going to try that one. its going to be torture for me i just know it. lexi and i usually go to my aunt house on the weekend and i think they are getting mad cause sometime does pee pee on their rug even though she knows where her pad is.. she also does go on her pad very ofen. im confused |

I got Shelby to go outside by moving the wee pad outside and taking her out first thing in the morning when she REALLY just can't hold it. After awhile I took her to the same spot without the wee pad. (be sure you are teaching her that potty word or something that you can use. I also take a long walk with her in the morning (she is in the frontpack for a long time) at the end i let her walk and say pottty, potty, potty....and occasionally she does it I keep Shelby on a leash while visiting. When she was younger there was always a wee pad within leash reach too. |
Shelby'amom has some great tips. You could also try a small xpen outside that is too small to play in where you can put her with her wee pad and then give her the command and keep backing up likeyou areleaving until she goes. She will eventually go right away to get out and not have you leave her alone. |
Chloe has her wee pads in her X pen and her small play pen and in our bathroom. She also goes outside. I have one in the bathroom because at 6:00 am, she really has to go......fast!!! Joy, Nikki and Chloe Rose :rose: |
Its freezing here, too during the winter. I had Stewie peepad trained, but I thought it was disgusting having pee in my house. I just started taking him out every hour when I was home. When I wasn't home (at work), I leave a pad out for him, but I figured he could hold it quite a while since he holds it all night. I picked up the pad when I got home and took him right out. I also take him out first thing in the morning. I do have a pad in my bedroom (he sleeps in my bed) because sometimes he hops out and uses it in the middle of the night and hops back in. He still pees on the pad once in a while when I'm not home, but I think the problem I had before was that whenever he would walk by it and see it, he would use it even if he didnt have to go. I guess I'll see how it works out in the winter time. I doubt he's gonna like the bitter Chicago winters. We'll see. Good luck to you! |
