Jumping Hi everyone. Sushi always jumps over the baby gate that separates the living room from the dining room. We'll be sitting in the living room watching tv and then we hear a thump. He jumps right over the gate to the dining room. The thing that gets me is that we are both (the b/f and me) in the living room with our other yorkie, Okie. There is also nothing in the dining room too. We want to train him not to jump over. Any advice? |
Oh Boy! I have a little climber/ jumper too. It really is kind of funny how good she is at it. lol But my advice would be to be consistant. When he jumps over, put him right back on the other side. I stand at the edge where she cant see me and catch her right before she does it. They can be little boogers. :D Good luck! :D |
Good Luck with this one..... You can try the training with constantly putting him back and rewarding him when he stays in the room But knowing yorkies ..... when they know they can get out of a situation THEY WILL Can the door be closed? Or can you get a higher gate? |

The living room and the dining is open so there's no door in between. The gate we have is 31". I think that's high enough for a yorkie. So I guess my b/f has been training him yesterday. Every time he jumps, he would put him in his crate for a time out (at least 5 minutes). He seemed to stop. I am thinking of getting some agility equipment for him in the summer because he loves to jump and run (a lot) |
