Inside Potty Advice Please So I've trained my dogs to go potty inside on a blue pee pad. I have a tray I keep underneath it to keep stuff from hitting the floor, but the tray gets so gross so quick. I want to replace it w/ something else, even if just another new tray, but was wondering if you guys had any advice on what works well for you? I don't want to just put a pee pad down on the floor alone, cause I get cheap ones in bulk and they can leak through. And I'd prefer to not have to spend the money to always buy the good quality expensive ones... Help! |
I only use the washable ones cause my dogs rip the paper ones apart. You could buy a couple washable ones to lay under the blue pads and if any soak through it would be absorbed |
Do you just wash them in the washing machine? I'm wondering if that would make my clothes gross? lol |
i put newspaper on top of the tray, but under the pad. it works well for me. if lexi slips alittle, the pee will go on the paper instead of in the tray |
This has worked for us. I bought a cheap roll of linoleum at Home Depot and cut off a piece a little larger than the size of a pad or newspaper. Then I put the pad on top. Keeps everything from leaking through to the carpet. When we go on vacation, we take it with us. Ever the jokester, my DH loves to say.... Have Linoleum, Will Travel. |
We almost put some lino down in the puppies kennel & play yard area in our livingroom, but found some rubber sheeting used for installing showers makes clean up a breeze when they miss the pad or just having an accident. I'm not cleaning my carpet daily :eek: As for the tray, I used a contractor size heavy garbage bag & duct taped it on the bottom so they could not get to it, now they use their piddle pads on the rubber mat, no messes in their kennel :D |
These are some great responses. Here is my two cents; I use what my breeder used, the cloth ones that are for humans.(thanks Deb at dngpresley). They have a water proof backing. I bought one at a medical supply company and it was about $18.00. It's about 2x3. Since Gunnar has gotten better about hitting the spot, I fold it in 1/2 or 1/4's. I'm going to cut into 1/4s and surge it, after I've washed it a few more times. As for washing it, I rinse it out in the sink first, then put it in the dryer to spin the water out. Then I add other laundry to it and run a full cycle in the machine. I didn't want to put it with our laundry the way it was. ewww:eek:. While it's in the washer, I put a disposable pee pad down. :aimeeyork Donna |
tin foil Line your tray with tin foil. wrap it around the edges and cover the whole thing, it makes a huge difference! then you can just roll it up and toss it out. that's what i've found works great. |
Tray vs Floor Does anyone have any advice on how I go about getting Miss Millie to go pee on the paper in the tray? She will #2 there, but thus far she will only pee on the papers I leave on the floor for her (or the floor itself).:rolleyes: |
I also have the potty pad tray , but I only have Chloe going on it so it never really gets the tray that messy, nothing a quick wipe wont fix. Maybe something like glad press and stick to put on the tray under the pad so you could just peel it up for easy removal and clean up ? A rubber mat would be good , but then you would have to clean that just like you would the tray. |
Ugo dog! I bought a Ugo dog for my new puppy and it works so well. It's kind of pricey at first (approx $50) but I don't have to pay for pee pads so it pays for itself. It's a tray with 2 crates on top and I put washable pee pads in the middle and its so easy to clean and easy for my little yorkie to use. There are plenty of reviews and information online about it.
