Cleaning pee spots on Carpet? To use or not use a steam cleaner on pee spots, that IS the question. I have 2 yorkies and I posted a thread about housebroken relapsing after having surgery (spay) -- my 2 little yorkies have seemed to have "forgotten" how to use the pee pads and someone said not to use a steam cleaner on the pee spots because it will set the stain. Any suggestions? I have a big steam cleaner (Bissell Pro Heat) and a small hand held one for quick pick ups.... I am going to save up and have my carpet taken up within the next year or so -- it doesn't appear to be in bad shape, but that is only because I work my BUTT off keeping it clean! I bet the padding is AWFUL under there! |
I have a Bissell wet vac and it comes in handly for a lot of things. |

Loki has had UTI's and we had a tough time housebreaking him so, as you might guess, our steam cleaner has gotten a workout. I can definately answer your question about setting the stain, since I have WHITE carpet (I swear it looked beige on that little teeny square when we picked it out). We have a Bissell Quicksteamer. We blot the spot right away and clean it with natures miracle. Then we use the steamer. It works on all stains that come from both ends of this little dog. A few times I've been in a hurry and cleaned up with Natures Miracle and then not steam cleaned until days later and it still gets the stain out completely. We plan on replacing our carpet eventually anyway, so if it sets the stain in the pad i don't really care. I can't smell anything, though, which is what I care most about. Loki is never out when we aren't home (someone is usually home), so I've never had to clean up an "old" stain. We always got them right away. I hope that helps. |
I have used a steam cleaner on mine and it makes a BIG difference....I have no idea what it does to the pads though......I use the pet cleaner/nuturlizer (i cant remeber the brand since I just tossed out the container and need more) anyhow i pre treat the carpet and let it sit for 20 min or so and then I add some in the cleaner as well. and after everything drys there are no stains and no smells anymore....I have beige carpet...hope that helps. |
I use a steam cleaner with oxiclean and odorban in it. |
