Litter Training.... I have heard people talk about litter training their puppy before...... but what really is litter training? I pee pad train my puppies, but is litter training really like a cat litter box with the fresh scoop litter in it? I know, I know, silly question and I should know this...... but I don't . Any help would be greatly appreciated! :thumbs up PS :yorkietal :D |
There are doggie litter boxes and special doggie litter (pellets made of recycled paper). I used it for my very first Yorkie years ago but it was a pain - she played with the litter and it got messy when it was wet. I prefer the pee pads. |
Do not teach your dog to litter train in a box, this is the worst thing you can do for the dog and yourself. Dogs should not think that it is ok to go potty in the house i suggest taking the dog outside is the best thing. I just started training my puppy to go potty outside, and putting her in a crate, this is working very good! |

It is much safer than trying to take them outside (especially if we are in a hotel located by busy traffic). There are advantages to both. |
Litter Training I much prefer pad training especially with the amount of snow we get in Canada. They are such small dogs and they'd be lost in the snow. Although, my Coco will only go poo outside and not inside I don't know why. My Cody is very good. Both go to the pad for poo and pee and even if you take him outside, he will do the same thing. It is not embarassing to take him anywhere else because as long as you show him where the pad is, he will go there. Not sure, why I am still having problem with Coco on the training. Sometimes, even if you take her out before going to be, she sometimes have accidents on her bed. Any, suggestions? |
Have tried the litter and it is a pain. Gets messy and the pup will play with the litter. Pee pads and a proper pad holder is the best way to go. You need a pad holder so the pup doesn't shred the pad when your not around. We like the Ugodog, but the Wizdog would work just as well. BTW...there is nothing wrong with litter/pee pad training. For those of us that live in rural areas it may be preferred as I would never let my furbaby outside without supervision. To many birds of prey in this area. |
