Pees on the pad but poops on the carpet I have a one and half year old yorkie. I trained him when he was very young to pee on the pad, which he does (with some occasional mishaps). But he never poops on the pad! He will go into his own little private corner, hunch his back over, and walk while he poops. And then come back to me. I go pick it up off the carpet and flush it in the toilet. This is getting annoying (I have been doing this for one year now) because I hate searching for where he pooped, plus its gross. Is it too late to train him to go on the pad? I feel like he might start off the on the pad, but by the time he is done walking like a hunchback, it will fall on the carpet. How do I train him to poop on the pad as well? ps--he is very private about pooping, nobody can be around...not even me |
I know what you mean. Hannah is in currently being potty trained. She will pee on the pee pee pad, but will poop on the carpet. Sometimes she poops on the pad and takes it over to the carpet. I can't wait to read the suggestions....:animal36 |
Pooping on wee wee pad My poodle would poop on the wee wee pad but it had to be under a chair. Just a thought ...... Erika |
Ok gals... Here's the deal. From what I've seen, some just dont like to pee & poop too close to each other. Infact, Ive read about some members having more than one pad placed in their home, because their pups just dont like to pee & poop in the same areas. Meka will be 2 yrs in March and still has an occasional accident. I use pee pads for her and usually have two kind of overlapping eachother...to give her a little more room than just one pad gives. She's always pee'd on them with no problem. However, it never fails that if she's already had 1 or 2 pee's on the pad... her poop will be right next to the pad. It really bothers my husband that she will sometimes poop right next to the pad rather than on it. I have no idea why... I always put the poop on the pad afterwards and take her to it and have tried to show her other ways but she still does this sometimes. She even has times (rare) that she'll poop in the living room  When I know she knows where to go. Although, I think those times are out of spite or lack of attention :) When she was a bit younger and we kinda gave her free run of the house..we'd put her in her bed and find out in the morning, she would pee on her pad and then travel a ways to go to a corner in the living room to poop. We ended up crate training her to help with this problem. Needless to say, if they are pooping everywhere, you might want to "shorten the leash" so to say and make sure they arent allowed the opportunity to go off and poop. Meka had to literally stay in every room that I was in, just so that I could keep an extra eye on her. When I saw her sniffing around... I'd make sure to send her to the pad. You name it, I've tried it. Also making sure that after dinner, there were no additional treats and snacks. And even keeping her meals on a schedule, so that I better knew when she was going to use it. It'll take some work, but he can get better. |
Mizbrown is correct. They do not like to pee and poop in the same place. What I find is that pee pads are too small for them to have their pee and poo on one piece. My Pao never overlaps his poo on his pee and always need "more" space. I ended up using newspaper to overlap the peepad. So he pees on the pad and poo on the newspaper but when he needs to scoot and walk while he is doing "it", a little bit of it will end up on the floor as well (sorry for being graphic lol). Usually, I just bring him out to do his poop and when he is home, he is good and uses his pee pad for pee. Edited to add: Mine will refuse to use his pee pad if there is a lot of pee on it so I have to change it every few hours. Talk about being fussy. |

Lilly is currently being outside trained and she rarely pees and poos in the same spot, in fact she pees on one side of the yard and runs to the opposite side and poos...I think one other post had the best solution, you have to keep them in the same room with you and look for the sign. Lilly spins around 3 times without fail before she poos. Lilly however is the opposite, she will have the potty accident in the house but signals at the door for to go poo. |
Curly Mac is just 8 weeks and is using the pee pads. BUT if she's used the pad a few times already, she'll pee, or poop, or both on the floor nearby the used pad. She MUST have a fairly clean pad, maybe used once or twice. Otherwise, I'm cleaning it up. Anyway, now we know what her "thing" is so the kids and I try to stay on top of it. The kids think we should try to toilet train her...as in, actually using our toilet! hahaha, this I'd love to see! |
thank you for all your suggestions!!! Bandit is def. the same way, one there is more than three spots on his pad, he will pee on the carpet. I will try to add more pads around the house...thanks! |
