Odd ...but it works. Ok so Pasquale has been pee pad trained for months now and he's done really well....rarely any accidents. Well lately, I caught him marking. And i cleaned with everything...including simple solutions. Well I decided to try something since i knew he hated the smell of tea tree oil. I would put some tea tree oil on a paper towel ...and then dab a little teenie bit where he marked. Well needless to say he has stopped marking in those spots. He wont even sniff in those spots anymore...cause he knows the tea tree oil is there lol He "may" find another spot...but now i know how to deal with it. |

Cool my baby doesn't mark (thankfully) but that is good to know and it's harmless. I bet you could use it for anything. Thanks for the info. |
I am glad you found something that works |
Way to go on finding something that works! :) |
This is a post from another forum. It is not mine. I cannont vouch for it's accuracy but it is disturbing. Maybe you all know this already, but I just learned it the hard way: TEA TREE OIL IS POISONOUS TO DOGS AND CATS. My dog Momo is okay now, but I STUPIDLY put some tea tree oil on his paws and a few hours later, he could not stand up. We rushed to the vet ER and he required IV flushing, activated charcoal, discussion with Poison Control, overnight monitoring, and an extreme bath. I have since researched this online and apparently it is widely known to be toxic -- so this is not unique to my dog. SOMETIMES it is used in very diluted amounts in dog shampoo and as a flea or tick repellent; but personally, I would urge you to research it before using it IN ANY AMOUNT. (That is what I should have done!) It is just as dangerous when it is absorbed through the skin as when it is ingested orally and causes NEUROLOGICAL REACTIONS and can cause LIVER DAMAGE. THANK GOD there was a good doctor at the ER that night to make up for my own idiocy. Anyway, I hope this will prevent this from happening to everyone elses pets....Oddly enough, it is not included on any of the lists of things that are toxic to dogs...if we have a list, maybe we should add it....THANK YOU. |
Well i dont apply it to him topically ....but....still....can never be too safe. Oh Poo! There goes my brilliant idea!! Guess i'm going to have to give the white vinegar and water a try...since the simple solution is not doing a good job. :( Does the vinegar smell really go away after a few hours?? Cause my husband will kill me if the house smells like vinegar LoL I hear its good to clean the shower with too......hmmmm:D |

Just a side note... if anyone has birds..It is highly toxic .... |
I have been using Tea Tree Oil ONLY from Melaleuca, Inc. Melaleuca: The Wellness Company (pharmaceutical grade - very high quality oil) for about 10 years. I have used it on my kids, pets, cuts, burns, insect bites, eczema, dog ear infection, and it has done nothing but heal and often cure the problems. You do need to make sure it is VERY high quality though. Some junk you can buy from Health Food Stores is just full of additives & mineral oil...and is NOT pharmaceutical grade oil. |
Thank you for the tidbit. I am going to try a dab on harnesses of known chewers :D Maybe it will help. |
I gargle every night with a few drops of tea tree oil in a mouthful of water. I'm careful not to swallow any, because it is toxic. However, it has a very strong smell. And, dogs' smell is so much stronger than our own. So I would imagine that a drop of the oil on a wall would smell super heavy duty to a dog. And would probably be pretty tough to actually lick/eat off the wall, as long as he didn't try immediately after you applied it. Just a thought. Teresa Also... organic tea tree oil is still toxic. |

It is great if it works but, in my opinion, it should be used like a cleaner...dogs shouldn't come into contact with it. You will get different opinions on it but I don't even use it in shampoo. There are stories of animals dying from it (cats more so than dogs). |
