With our adopted 8 mo. old pup, we had several "goes" at potty training - but once WE learned HER schedule it was smooth sailing from then on!

She would sniff around and want to play instead of doing her duty - and she even started going on command - TT - and there it was, then we'd go running or play - and at 5:00 p.m. on the dot it was time for poop - so the same thing worked - just so she got her playtime afterward everything was wonderful!!

Litter Box with wee Pads
 

Hi,

I have a 1 1/2 year old yorkie Lila who I trained on pee pads..I just got another yorkie from my daughter, Cosmos who is 3. He has never been on a pee pad, and I have had him since Thanksgiving. He has been doing about 50% on the pad. I work all day, and the both of them are in the living room/or my bedroom. All hardwood and slate floors. I have two pee pads in the living room and a pad in the bedroom. Should I switch to a litterbox with the pads inside? They are only 3 3/4 pds each. And lila refuses to poop/pee outside.

Another yorkie mom needing advice
 

Hi folks! My first post and I'm adding to this already long thread!

I have a one year old Yorkie female named Harlow. I am not new to Yorkies and have had a difficult time house breaking all of them. However Harlow seems to be the hardest or maybe it just feels that way.

I work at home but am extremely busy.
Our schedule has been consistent however I am not having success.

She goes out first thing in the morning and comes in. That's either between 6 or 7. She goes out every two hours after that. I'm very methodical because I even set an alarm so I remember and don't get too caught up in work. She also goes out a little bit after eating.

I've purchased the book in the first post and I hope it helps.
Nigh time she is fine. She does not go to the bathroom or she runs to the bathroom where I have a piddle pad.

During the day when I am working, she pees anywhere and everywhere. She has piddle pads available and that's with every two hours breaks to go outside and pee. I even bring out a treat so when she pees, I praise her and hand her a treat immediately.

This was working for a bit but it seems she is regressing. At this point, I'm pretty sure my carpet is marked and a professional cleaning is needed. Perhaps after that do you think I will have better luck?

Since the book has not arrived, should I be placing her in a crate and starting over?

Help, chewer and pees in the house
 

Hi Everyone,

I need some advice. I have adopted a 10 mouth old Yorkie. When she came to me, she was litter box trained. She had never been walked really because the lady who blessed my life with her was medically ill and couldn't take care of her. Anyway, it took me a week of consistent walking her outside and she finally learned to pee and poop outside. However she has started peeing in the house. It's only when we're home, as she is in the kitchen in her crate at work. She's only alone like three hours at a time and gets walked morning noon and night. Sometimes she'll use the litter box and then other times, she goes pee in the house. I'm beside myself with this.

Also she puts EVERYTHING in her mouth. Any ideas to break this habit? I had a Yorkie for 15 years and his peeing in the house was always an issue, but I wasn't consistent with him like I am with her. He NEVER put anything in his mouth. Any advice greatly appreciated.

I just read the info and was unable to pull up the link. Like you said the book is rather
inexpensive and I probably would be able to but it if as a new Mom if I didn't spend ever dime on him. Just yesterday I came home with a $1.00 to my name . I know that is sad I must have more self control as a new Mom! Please let me know if the link is the same or maybe it's something I did wrong.

I found this article online. It's similar to what I used with Sydney. When you do feed your puppy, give them 20 minutes to eat. If they don't eat within that time, take the food away. I still do that with Sydney.

ring a bell to go ptty! How does that work and where do you put the bell and teach them to ring it? Maybe all the info was on the web-site I'm not sure.

Ok what is it with the bell? I have read several talking about them ringing a bell to go potty. :confused:

Ahh the bell. My Chloe was a bell ringer when she wanted to out to potty. Check out Welcome To Poochie Bells their website explains it all :)

Potty Training
 

:animal-paThanks I read it. I can use all the help i can get. He is starting to be very verbal. He got a shot yesterday and today he is barking more than ever. Normally he only barks when he wants to go potty or eating time.

I'm getting really discouraged regarding potty training. I have her peeing on the mats now when I have her confined to them, but when she freely plays and roams, she pees on the carpet. (I feel bad keeping her confined, she loves me and wants me in her sites at all times) Not sure when it will click for her. I can tell she knows it upsets me when she pees on the carpet. She is so fast and snifs all the time that it is hard to tell when she is about to go and I can't seem to pin point the time from when she drinks or eats to when she does the deed. :confused:

I have two small pups, one Yorkie (Henry age 1.5 yrs.) and one mutt (Nell age 2.5 yrs). Nell was an angel when it came to pottie training and I have her faithfully using her puppy pad as a pottie inside when she needs to go (we still go out 3 times a day). Henry however started off great using the pottie inside, and now seems to be peeing on everything when I turn my back. I have reverted to confining Henry to a pen when I am not home (he will not pee in his pen), and I try to watch him as much as I can, but he still manages little puddles. He especially likes to lift his leg on my dining room chairs. Henry's schedule has been the same for a year now, and he rarely has poop accidents.

I have purchased anti-marking spray which has helped a little bit (he uses his pottie once every few days now at least), but I still have problems. I was thinking of purchasing a small fire hydrant attractant to put on the pup pottie. Has anyone tried this?
