So frustrated I feel like crying(pottytraining) I need some words of encouragement. My baby Jackson was doing pretty well house breaking but over the past couple of days he has regressed. Im am crate training and for the most part he does ok(well he did ok). He has started pooing and peeing in the crate and when I take him out to clean it I will put him in the kitchen and as soon as I walk away he does his business, mostly pee all over the place. He was going outside and now will not do it as soon as I bring him in wants to eliminate. We spend a good amount of time outside but he has just stop going. He is farely young (8 wks) so im wondering if crate traing is not a good idea? Maybe I should pee pad train for now and then try and crate train once he's older b/c I much rather him go outside? |
Awww he's just a wee baby. Take him out on the hour every hour...in the middle of the night...expect him to need to out too. As he gets older and bigger...he won't need to go out as often. When you take him out....WALK him. Don't stand there and expect him to go...walking stimulates them to potty. Make sure you have made his crate so small he is only able to stand or lay down. If necessary place something in the back...a shoe box, etc. Understand he is very small...his bladder is very small and he will need to go out frequently. Don't expect him to be able to hold it for hours just because he is crated. Making the area smaller will discourage him greatly... Personally unless you want him pad trained forever...I wouldn't go that route. Reggie came to me pad trained...and I was never able to train him to go outside all the time. He doesn't "get" why going inside isn't an option any more. So we use pads and outside. My others are trained completely to outside. I will say...you have a long way to go before he's completely trained. Good luck. |

One more suggestion...if you have multiple doors that lead to the outside. Pick ONE to use...eventually he will associate that door with needing to potty...and that will be the door he goes to on his own. That is when you will know...he's getting it. ;) Another...if he takes a nap or goes to sleep...immediately when he wakes up...take him out. I also used the phrase ...go potty and pretty much had a potty party when they went. My Reese will potty on command and still looks to me for praise while he's going. |
I am in the same boat as the OP. I have a 8 week old boy. I got him about a week ago. He is so small that the grass covers him up so I don't take him outside. I am using the pad thing for him to use the bathroom. When I take him out of his crate I immediately put him on the pad and say go pee pee. He will do it usually. I also will do this after he eats a meal as well. He has had a few accidents thus far and when I catch him doing it I will tell him no and put him on the pad hoping he understands. He has been sleeping through the night thusfar as well with only one accident. I will make him go do the business about 10 at night and he seems to hold it through the night. Anyone else got any suggestions of what I could do or things that I am doing wrong. Thanks |

That's a lot to expect from such a little one. Everytime you take him out have some healthy snacks for him. As soon as he goes make a fuss and give him a treat. He'll realize going outside is something good. Best wishes. |

No, crate and PEN training is great, remember he is a little guy. Most yorkies can take a long time to train fully. My boy took over a year. I know it is fustrating but please don't give up. Make sure when you are crate training that there is only enough room for him to stand and turn around. If you give him the whole crate he will find a place to poo in there. :D. I recommend getting a video on crate training. Good Luck. |

Patience, consistency and a lot of Nature's Miracle worked for us. Rudy ( 17 wks old) will be accident free for one month tomorrow :) |
