Is this Normal? My Biggie recently turned 2 years old and has been squatting to pee since he was a puppy. In late October, he started lifting his leg to pee...no clue where that came from? Anyhow, now it seems like he wants to mark every bush and tree in site when I take him out to go pee. Even if he had just emptied his bladder he has to stop and let a drip out on a bush or tree. He has been neutered and is submissive around other dogs. Is this normal behavior? How do I stop this? |
My Chachi does the same thing and hes neutered. As long as its just outside I dont mind it. I dont know any way to stop it it is just something male dogs do |
Marking is different than peeing, and dogs do this to mark their territory and let other dogs know who they are, it's similar to a calling card. While neutering takes away the testicles that make the bulk of testosterone the body still makes some in both males and females, and the amount varies greatly between dogs. Some neutered females mark. The testosterone is linked with marking, and sometimes the body will produce more of it if your dog has been around other dogs. Joey loves to mark around the neighborhood, he seems really happy with himself when he's doing this. I think he still squats to pee, I don't know, but according to the pad, it looks like a squat, he's very private, and doesn't like me around when he's peeing. |
Thanks Ladies! I feel better knowing his behavior is normal. |
Think of it as dog's way of sending out spam mail :) |
Most male dogs will try to pee wherever they smell another dogs scent. This is perfectly normal. |
Thanks everyone for the responses. I appreciate it. :) |
