Need some potty training help! I am a new Yorkie owner & have never owned a little dog before. Only large dogs and they have all gone outside to do their business. I have a 5 mos. old Yorkie that was trained to pee pee pads and I have had her 1 month. She seemed to to ok with the pee pads at first, but now she is peeing & pooping on the carpet whenever I take her out to play with her. I always make sure she has recently used her pee pad before taking her out of her pen to play. I don't want to confine her al lthe time to the pen, and I'd like to let her have more freedom around the house. Is she just too young to have more freedom? I thought she was potty trained, but now I guess not. I have also tried to take her outside to do her business and she won't go on the grass. In fact, she just eats rabbit poop out of the grass when I take her out there to go! I am feeling it is a lose, lose situation. I'd really prefer she goes outside to do her business anyhow, but we live in CO and it is often snowy or soo cold for my little one. she shivers like crazy outside & the wind literally blows her over. she is under 3 #. can anyone give me some advice on what to do? Thanks so much :aimeeyork |

You don't want to leave your puppy unattended when you're not home. They will chew up until around 1 year old or a little after. My youngest just turned 7 mos. yesterday and has decided she wants to nibble away on my leather sectional. It's not going to hurt it, as it's already destroyed, but, I still get on to her as I don't want her to think it's okay to destroy it more. I would honestly try and keep her going on the pee pad. The little one I just got, I got at 5 1/2 mos. and had her completely housebroken in less than 2 weeks. It just takes a lot of consistency, and mine is also tiny, she's right around 2 lbs. Good luck |
Thanks for the advice esp. about the rabbit. poop! Well...I just spent the entire morning trying to get her to go outside. I have had her crated since 8am and made sure she was well fed & watered. I took her outside about every 15 min. (for a 15 min time session) and darn if she did not end up peeing in her crate! So...I think back to the pads we will go. I can tell she is upset she peed in the crate...now I am washing her bedding, so maybe I will just try harder to praise her on the pads. Much of the time she goes on the pads, but I don't see it when she is going (since they are in the pen area.) Her pen is in my bedroom, so if I'm not there & she goes, I can't reward her. Maybe I will move it downstairs & keep her crate in my room so she can sleep there at night? |
