Difficulty Training Maisie and I started puppy class tonight and I was just wondering if anyone else had had trouble trainging their Yorkies? Maisie is quite timid and we spent a lot of time tonight just watching the other dogs, but I'm finding trsining simple things like sit and down quite a challenge. Anyone else had this? Jess :heart to |
My Sophie knows sit, stay and down but she is quite hyper and its hard for her to focus. I usually have to ask her several times before she will do it! We are going to puppy classes soon too!! |
Yorkies are known to be quite stubborn! You just have to have a little patience.. they'll come around eventually. Franklin knows sit, down, roll over, and he sits and waits for his food as well as before we walk through any doors. |
Maximus has done well with sit and lay (still working on head down and come), of course, yesterday at the pet boutique when I was trying to show is talents off, he made me look like a dummy. lol He was scared that two of the other little pups there were going to take his food. lol |
Double post |
I don't know if these are good, or if they actually work, but I use them to train Hiro on something new. Sniffers 101 All Natural Training Bits for your Dog As well I give him a couple before bed -- and it might just be a huge coincidence -- but he seems to be pretty chill after I give him some. It says these treats bring focus and a calming effect over a pup. As I said, I don't know - but he loves them and so I use them. |
Yorkies are very easily distracted They are the ADD children of the Dog World I've found that they are MUCH better One on One Get their favorite treat and start the WATCH ME training Put the treat up by your face and say .. WATCH ME Hopefully they will sit and be absorbed by the treat you're holding Then crouch down and see if your puppy continues to stay in the same place If he does GOOD BOY and give it to him If not get back up and put the treat back by your face and say it again WATCH ME That is the basis for any very active dog that gets distracted very quickly |
My yorkie, Ruby, is a total brat of course. She has the attention span of a gnat and never listens to me. She's EXTREMELY intelligent, she just wants what she wants when she wants it. I was watching an episode of me or the dog, and the woman taught these two totally unruly dogs to sit, bring toys, drop them on command and then bring them back. I have tried until I was blue in the face with this girl and let me tell you, something ALWAYS distracts her. I did what the "female dog whisperer" (dont remember her name lol) did, and I am proud to say it worked! Ruby is sitting now without even saying it if i'm holding a treat and it only took a day for her to get to that point. We are working on the bringing the toy, she's not consistent yet but she drops it every time. Have a toy in one hand and throw another. When the dog brings back the first toy, say bring it as she's bringing it to you and then squeek the other one and say drop once she's in front of you again, while trying to give her the new one. Then repeat the process. Eventually, it worked! NOW, if I could only get her to stop barking when i'm not home...time for my first post! |
i am having a difficult time training my new puppy also including housetraining. Let me know how the training class goes. Who are you taking the class with? |
