Pee pad training I'm in desperate need of some help/advice. I have a 2 year old yorkie who I got about 8 months ago. She was easily trained to go potty outside on a leash without any problems. We've recently moved to a place that doesn't allow animals, so taking her outside really isn't an option. How do I train her to go on the potty pads now? When I put her on them she simply just sits down and refuses to go. I even bought a doggy potty that has the fake grass and she just sits on that as well. Has anyone ever dealt with this? Any and all training advise is desperately needed! |
I adopted a 2 year old and he did the same thing. He would sit on the Pee pad or in the litter box for a long time, just looking at me tilting his little head. Anyway, my only suggestion would be to dot the pad with her own urine. Then let her smell and she might get the idea. The way we trained our two was we bought 4 baby gates and tied them together. (The gates, not the doggies) We put their bed, food and pee pad in the pen on the floor. We made the pen small at first so they were forced to pee on the pad. Then we increased the size of the pen so they had more and more floor space. Good luck. OUr first yorkie never did figure out the pee pad. He thought we were CRAZY. "What? Go in the house? YOu've got to be kidding!!!" |
I really don't know what to tell you. The thing is, mine have been pee pad trained since day one, it's much easier to train them to go outside from the pee pad than it is the other way. Now that she's been used to going outside, she won't want to pee in the house, when she was trained, she probably got in to trouble for pottying in the house. I've been lucky that all of mine, although they use pads, when they go outside they will still pee. I actually rehomed a dog I had once, she was 5 mos old when I got her and trained outside, I did all I could to get her to use pee pad, but, she just woulnd't use it, so, we finally decided to rehome her to someone that wanted her really bad that wanted their dogs to go outside. I just didn't want all of them using pee pads except one..good luck |
