Potty pads Looking for help in potty training on potty pads, my pups are 6 months old now, they did good at first but they are like a 2 year old child they sometimes go without me seeing them on the pad and at other times they go wherever they want, I thought it would be hard for two b/c I dont know who is doing what, they also play with the potty pad, I had a tray but they would rip the potty pad right out. I am sure they are two now just like my two year old. Any advice is much appreciated. btw, it is too cold out to take them out they just shake so I am leaving that for the spring time ;) |
I think just putting jackets and foot gear on them and take them outside anyway for a little while a couple times a day would be so good for them and maybe they would be so bored inside. ;) |
Yeah it's cold but with a sweater you can totally take them outside. I would definitely try that. If your eventual goal is to get them to go outside I wouldn't let them go in the house any more. That will be a hard habit to break later. Mine go outside - heck they even went outside when we visited my brother in Wisconsin last Feb. with 3 feet of snow. Really, it's OK. I don't even put a coat on Loki now that he is so efficient (in and out in 30 seconds, he's a professional pee-er ;)) Sam needs a sweater or something (she's a skinny butt with no body fat!) and she will stay out there until she starts to shiver (by choice, she likes to sniff stuff) but she warms right up when she comes in. I'd say if they can warm up in a minute or so after coming in then it's probably fine to send them out there. Good luck! |
Thanks you are all right, I do want them to be trained with both though, I did take them out tonight they just sat there, moved a little, then sat again I am sure they will get better each time though. What should I do about the pads though b/c I would like for them to go on the pads in case of an accedent, that was just how my Jack russel was trained, but he was trained on the paper first then at about one year old I slowly trained him to go out door. Thank you all |
My two yorkies have been pee pad trained since about 3 months. I would put a small spot of their pee on each new pad. They would wet on that spot. When they have used the pad once or twice, I do the same on the next clean pad. It wasn't long before they didn't need the 'smell' spot. I keep the pads fresh and don't let them get real bad. I don't think they like a dirty pad because they will wet outside the pad if it's too used. |
