My Yorkie is part Beaver! My wonderful little Jockey has the bad habit of chewing on my wicker chair, my door frames & my cabinets. Unfortunately he gets Derby doing it as well. At what point does a puppy stop chewing on furniture? He is now almost 10 months old and has a myriad of different chewy sticks, toys and such that I rotate out for the two of them every couple of days. The majority of the time, my pups are with me but when I do have to leave them at home for a bit...the furniture destruction begins. And of course I know that it is just furniture but it is still a behavior that I would like to have stop. I have used the Bitter Apple spray but it wears off after a couple of hours or so and they are back at it. Any tips or advice would be GREATLY appreciated.:):aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
I have the same problem. Any preventative spray wears off and the chewing begins again. Mine are 6 and 8 mo old. They too have any chew toy you can name. I have resorted to covering objects and walls that I don't want chewed with pillows or anything that takes their mind off it. I am hoping out of site, out of mind. |
:pLOL... Join the club! Kikki is really a bad chewer! She has went thru 3 internet cables, 2 phones line.. 3 walls... and hubby has plastered them 3 times, two pair of new shoes, the ends of my wicker end table, An antique table the leg is all chewed up, 3 rugs she has chewed up, I can't remember it all.. BUT WE STILL LOVE HER! haha,,, She has every kind of chew bone an toy there is... She prefers my walls etc! I never had a baby that chews as much as she has! hehe:p |
I find something new almost daily. and I watch her very closely. she has chewed off the bottom part of the trim of the laundry room doorway. my laptop cord, electric blanket cord. Luckily for her I use safety strips. That was just on one occasion when she figured out how to get over, through and around her baby gate. sheesh. |
Have you tried clear deodorant? When nothing else worked for wires with Gizmo, someone here on YT suggested that and it works. Yes, you have to reapply it every day for awhile, but after a week or so, he didn't even try any more. Hey, it's worth a try. |
no. but I will. ty. |
Bella Too Bella has chewed things throughout the year she has been part of our family. The bottom corner of our entertainment center, the corner of my husbands chest of drawers, the corner of my daughters dresser, a few book bindings (including my daughters new yearbook), a laptop cord. She has gotten better recently as she gets older. But she is just so cute. what can you do. ------------------------------:fallen::fallen::fallen::fallen::fallen:-------------------------- |

Thanks Judy, I will give that a whirl and see if it works for my little guys. Here's hoping....:xfingers: |
I've used deodorant on our wood door casings and he has not been back to it since. It's been about 3 weeks. BUT, it's also when he had a BAD bout of diaherra:eek:, not sure if he licked it and that caused it but he got over the runs and my door casings are fine.....;) |
I'm glad this posting is here! My Tobi chews on everything furniture, toes, shoes, fingers, etc. I am going to run my fingers and furniture with deodorant this evening. LOL |
