baby behaviors? I had become very ill last month and was in the hospital twice. My Suzi 9 months old, and a new behvior showed up when I got home. She "suckles" on my clothing. Especially my blue robe. I have holes and tears in my robe now, but why is she doing that? She will also try and do that to my pant legs. I feel so bad for her. Because I was away, she seems like she's doing it for comfort? I have always been with her since i brought her home. This was the first time I was not, and could not be there . And now she is sometimes behaving like a newborn pup? |
hmmm my rescue baby does this to all of her felt toys... I wonder if you are right about doing it for comfort. I think its cute when she does it, but she only does it to her toys....probably not so cute when its your clothes.... |
I would not mind it so much if they were not getting ruined with wholes. Oh well, it was only a terry cloth robe. I guess i'll buy anther robe, and cut a "blanky" out of this one for Suzi .She must really like the feel of the cloth? or reminds her of her mommy and littermates? It is cute, but goodness graciouis, she really seems like such a little baby when she acts like that! Should i work on changing the behavior or leave it alone? |
I would say to carry on reassuring her for now. It is early days and maybe once she sees tha you are not going to disappear again, she will settle down...fingers crossed anyway. |
Is she showing any other insecure behavior? Cowering at strange sounds or people? Is she shadowing you all the time as well? |
No, she is not showing any other behaviors other than this one. In fact Suzi loves people! anyone who comes over is her best friend, and she is not fearful one bit. I think she likes certain feels of fabric that reminds her of being with her littermates? She certainly wanted to chew on my pants today, and was not going to quit, my sone picked her up and cuddled her, then she forgot all about the pant suckling . I just hate it because it ruins my clothes. |
why don't you try this give her something of yours that she can have so it will take her mind off of the things that are wearable and that you don't wantt turned into swiss cheese |
