How do I make a belly band? Clarence (aka Baby Boo) is 12 & on a diuretic so he's not always successful on getting our attention to go out so I wanted to put a belly band on him. I tried to take a bandana & fold it up but it slides & his peepee ends up hanging out (yeah don't be impressed, he just has a round belly;)) Any hints? |
Get some scrap material at the fabric store, some thin batting and some sew on velcro. Cut the material in strips and cut the batting in strips to fit. Sew down each side (of course folding the sides under and making it look neat) the sew on your velcro and voila! Belly band! |
1 Attachment(s) Just wanted to add that the belly bands holds a sanitary pad into place. That's it's function, just a belt for the pad. Some people recommend Poise pads for dogs that need more of a diaper effect; I've found that regular pads are useful for just marking. Here's a picture. |
I would line with flannel not batting as batting is not absorbant at all and sometimes they can leak here and there, also batting doesn't hold up very well after many washes. You can measure his length from just behind his ribcage to just in front of his back legs to get about the width the band should be to make sure his little sprinkler is covered. |

His sprinkler!!!!! Love it! Thanks for the help! Bless the little guys heart, he's 12 & we think he has a little puppy altzhimers too....he just seems to zone out sometimes. We'll leave the sliding glass door open in cooler weather & he'll walk over to the door (which is OPEN!) & pee on the floor. Water seems to just flow thru him. |
I would like to add tht when I made then for my 2 I used the really wide sew on velcro. IMO is seemed to hold a little better then the narrow. I was able to make 2 belly bands out of every 1/4 yard when I lined with the flannel. Good luck with your little man he is a cutie. |
