barking at the doorbell We just celebrated GraySee's 1 year birthday, and she is doing well. For POTTY, she has a signal: she jumps to the side, and emits a little "Ruff" each time she needs to go out. However, left alone in a bedroom, which has CARPET, she often backslides and pees/poops right there. It must be the soft, comfortable feel of the carpet! Anyway, I haven't been able to break her of barking when someone comes to the door. Has anyone else any suggestions for breaking her of this, short of taking her to "Obedience School"? |
I have learned on YT that you can put pennies in a can and shake it when they bark, then say "quiet". Give it a try! Good luck! |
I could also use some advice in this category. Sasha seems to bark at everything, whether it's the doorbell, a squirrel outside or a neighbor outside shoveling the snow. Sometimes she looks out the window and barks but I don't see anything! I've tried the "pennies in a can" trick, but she seemed to think it was a game. She would crouch down, wag her tail and just bark at it to. I'm open for suggestions! |
This was MAJOR in our house. We don't have a doorbell, but whenever Toby hears a doorbell on TV he starts to bark. (there's lots of that with Holiday commercials) He was rehomed, so we figure the first house must have had a doorbell. What we do is say "NO Barks", and as soon as he stops, he gets a treat. You have to treat as soon as he stops.(Everything I own has treats in the pocket) interrupt the behavior, which is what the penny bottle does. It has taken a while, but now when he hears the bell he just kinof makes what I call a "Burp Growl." It's not really a bark, but the beginnings. He is 18 months though, But I would guess the behavior mod. is the same. We do the same thing outside when he barks at noises as well. |
