Marking everywhere!! My 8 month old Yorkie picked up a new habit a month or two ago...at first it was kind of cute when we would go for our walks and he would lift his little leg up. But now he's marking EVERYWHERE! I took a nap for a few hours today and found 5 mark spots, by the wall, by the couch, by the table legs. Yesterday my cousin came to visit and he jumped up on the couch not two feet from her and marked on my suede couch! I am at my wits end! My house reeks of Resolve pet stain cleaner. I know Yorkies are not one to respond to yelling or spanking so what do I do? And really I've only been able to catch him doing it one other time besides the couch incident. |
BTW, he is not neutered but will be as soon as I can save some extra money after the holidays...what are my options until then? |

MARKING? Anyone need help My furbaby does mark things, and we are planning on getting him neutered after the new year, as money is an issue at the moment with layoffs. He will be 2 yrs old in March, does neutering him at this age stop the marking or will he just continue to mark even afterwards? Our vet is not real sure on this subject as neutering him is not exactly for this matter I was told. Anyone shed some light on this thanks |
My experience has been that once the male harmones have matured and marking begins, neutering has not helped. Although, neutering is very beneficial in other ways. |
BELLY BAND!!!! The belly band is kind of like a diaper for boys. You can get it at petco or petsmart. It saved my life and my relationship. :) LOL My puppy started marking EVERYTHING at around 8 months. Once I put the belly band on him and he tried to mark his spot, no pee actually got on what he was marking, just in his diaper. So defiantly put sanitary pads in it so you don't have to keep washing it, you can just change the pad. He eventually caught on after wearing the band in the house for a couple weeks. Good Luck and hang in their! |
I highly, highly, HIGHLY suggest neutering ASAP. Max started marking in my house when I got him and it was sooo annoying. I got a belly band which was quite annoying to keep changing, but at least I knew he wasn't getting it secretly some where in our house. As soon as he got neutered, the marking stopped. It was amazing. He stopped all of his hormonal behaviors after three days. I don't think it will be the same in your case because it is a habit, but Max only did this for a week or two in my house before he was neutered. There's always hope though. Keep him on leash so you can correct him if he marks, and put him in the crate if you can't watch him. Good luck. |
Duke is a year old and still marks outside after he is neutered. He also loves my rugs...I decided to just roll the rugs up after a while to avoid the unpleasant urine smells or washing them so much. If any of you are struggling with the neutering fee, I found people for animal in NJ to be a great affordable clinic. I was skeptical at first since I wanted Duke to have the best care but seeing that so many people trust their pets with the vet there, I was convinced. The price for us was around $125 for neutering, microchipped + registration, nail clipping, and med for post-op. I check with the vets around and they wanted almost $300 for the neutering alone. Duke was neutered in August, they did a great job, highly recommend them if you're in the area. PFA Homepage |
