Differences between belly band and diaper? Hi everybody! So I guess the topic pretty much speak for itself. I'm just wondering what's the differences between a belly band and a dog diaper? From what I can see, they pretty much serve the same purposes? Can someone tell me what are the pros and cons between these two and also which one is better? And how long can you leave them on? I travel a lot to my boyfriend house, and at times, I stay the night... and since his house is all carpet, I don't want Dylan (my dog) to pee all over his carpet. Also, just a little add in. Dylan alwaaaays pee when he's excited. Is there a way to stop this problem? He isn't neutered yet but I'm planning to neuter him next month. And he barks a lot when a stranger come into the house. He's not vicious. He doesn't bark to scare them, but rather... to get their attention. He stops once they come over and greet/pet him. But if they don't, he would stand there and bark bark bark bark bark until they leave. It's rather annoying. |

They help with marking, peeing in the house, or in your case peeing when excited. They soak up the pee so it doesn't end up all over the house. I know a YT member here makes them her username is Little Bit. She also makes washable pee pads. If you want more info I suggest during a search in the YT forums for belly bands. I don't know about the barking issue. There is one thing you could do, teach to bark on command and once he's got that down teach him quiet. So when he barks you can tell him Quiet and the barking will hopefully stop. Good luck with your finds! |
I've been wondering about these magical sounding belly bands too. Diapers seem a little extreme to me, but belly bands for a boy... hm... Are they bad to use in the beginning when housetraining because you wouldn't notice them pee indoors to correct them and immediately take them out? Or is the wetness on the belly enough of a deterrent? And are dogs actually cool with having the belly band on? Seems to me like my chewy wriggly puppy would never keep one of those one for more than 5 minutes! He chews at his harness enough as it is. Lauren & Nikko |
Hi Lauren - many members who have male dogs use human baby diapers with great success. I use belly bands for my guys. I make my own out of Dupioni Silk (gentle on hair) and there are several members who make them for sale. You might check out the following thread for who makes what. Members Nancy1999 and and 4doggiemama did a fantastic job compiling the list and update it regularly: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ore-sites.html |
I have been using a belly band on my recently acquired rescue...he was just neutered and I don't want to take chances on him marking and of course he is not perfect with house training either I love the belly band! |
I saw one at Petco but it seemed so stiff. I'm afraid it will cut into Clarences legs. |
I got the one belly band that I have at PetSmart and yes it is stiff. It is kind of a denim material. But I washed it and it did soften up a bit. It is fine for my guy, but he is not a puppy either. I plan to order a couple more from a yt member, I'm guessing they will not be as stiff. ;) |
