ripping up carpet
 

so peanut decided to rip up the carpet in the corners ive tried the bitter apple spray and yelling at her saying no, time out you name it the only thing that works is literally putting something over it.....anyone have any ideas/suggestions? she's 5 months and teething, has a ton of toys we've tried cold washcloths but its only a temporary distraction.

I would confine her to a place without carpet to play and sleep when you cannot watch her. I would supervise her when she is sitting or playing on the carpet. When you catch her starting to tear the carpet, then you tell her no and give her a toy. You can use pennies in a jar or squirt bottle to distract her and stop her from chewing the carpet. I believe in praising dogs for good behavior. My dog use to chew on my rug in my bedroom. When I notice my dog playing with a toy and not chewing on the rug, then I would sing to him, cheer for him, pet him, play with him, or give him a food reward. These techniques stopped my dog from chewing on my rug.

I had a carpet chewer...I liberally sprinkled black pepper over that spot. It's quite effective and easily vacuumed up.

I had that problem with Sassy. I squirted her with a spray bottle of water which would work for a little while but she would go back to it occassionally so I got her a bully stick and that seemed to keep her quite busy so she doesnt do it anymore. :thumbup:

UGH. I share your frustration. Uno is a year and a half, and he loves those corners...It's SO irritating. I have sprayed it with "Boundary" spray from Petco, which I think worked for a day. I'm definitely going to try pepper now and see how that works.

Since it's Christmas time Uno has now gotten into the fake poinsettia filler in the planter. I came home and it was ALL over the carpet. Maybe i'll have to season those plants up with some pepper too. *sigh*

Hi, I am having this problem to along with chewing the wall paper in kitchen,the wall and bedding,they dont chew there own bed they chew my older dogs bed, they have to sleep on theres, not stupid hey lol no its really not funny and can get you feeling very frustrated. Its mainly scooby as i have 2 pups, he is a little monster. Ive brought up 2 yorkies before 12 1/2 yrs ago but, there was 6mths between them, i was younger then to and still had my children around to help,
these 2 only have a wk differance in age. 1 born 24/07 and other 30/07. I said bk then, never would i have 2 pups at same time, now i remember why i said that all them years ago,and i mainly had probs with pippa not so much toby but, this is like follow the leader, when scooby starts george starts, but he will stop when i say no, scooby well, he pretends to be deaf, he has allot more cofidence than george has,they have lots of toys and chews,as soon as they start to chew, i straight away say no and give them there toy or chew, i give lots of praise when they do good and stop what there doing, and a good sturn voice saying no when there being naughty,and they do know what NO means now, but you dont always catch them just as there starting to doing it, you need eyes in the bk of your head.
both corners of carpet have gone now round the kitchen door. Im just going to replace it when there older, i dont have much choise I have a nice hole in the wall to, you would think i had german sheperd, hey I shouldnt of mentioned that lol when my german shepard was a pup he ate and distroyed everything he could, i got up one morning and didnt have any kitchen floor covering, wasnt funny at the time but can laugh now.I did think of using pepper myself but thought i cant do that,i felt cruel thinking,there little nose will sting when they sniff it, now ive heard someone eles say it,Im going to try the pepper to doesnt make me feel cruel anymore :) good luck and remember your pup is a baby and still learning, thats how i think about it When, ive calmed down lol

Mine have a great fascination with the wall to wall carpeting in my living room
and have even managed to find the ends tucked under the floor boards

But like with any behavior problem a quick No Thank You !
And taking them away from it will put an end to it
But they've got to be watched
and stopped from doing it again and again

WELL I ALSO HAVE BEEN HAVING A PROBLEM WITH RYLE CHEWING THE EDGES OF THE CARPET UP, LIKE WHERE THE CARPET AND THE WOOD FLOOR MEET. HE WOULD START CHEWING AND IT WOULD START TO UNRAVEL AND I WOULD TUCK IT ALL BACK IN SO THAT YOU COULDNT NOTICE,WELL EVERY TIME I WOULD TURN MY BACK THERE IT WAS ALL PULLED OUT AGAIN:mad:SO I BOUGHT A RUG....PUT IT OVER THE SPOT....WELL HE JUST DRAGGED IT OVER SO HE COULD GET TO IT:mad:WELL I FIXED HIM...I GOT A ROLL OF 2" CLEAR TAPE AND RAN IT OVER THE WHOLE EDGE OF THE CARPET...WELL HE THOUGHT HE COULD GET IT UP AND WELL HE DID IN FACT GET A SMALL AMOUNT UP AND IT GOT STUCK TO HIS FUR, IT FRECKED HIM OUT AND HE WENT RUNNING UP THE STAIRS TO HIS DADDY AND HE TOOK IT OFF. SO GUESS WHO DOESNT EVEN THINK ABOUT CHEWING CARPET UP ANYMORE!!!!!:)

Not good for my Boys ...... They LOVE tape :confused:

I have to comment because my Shorkie tore up my new berber carpet at the top of my stairs. He did it twice and I had it repaired. I used pepper and he did not do it again. I then bought a little yorkie and geuss what she did....I cam home from work and she had tore up the same spot (caught her in the act)... repaired again and used pepper...no more carpet tearing. Good luck!
