Lilly loves to piss on the floor!!!! We just got a 8 week old yorkie. Her name is Lilly. We are pee pad training her. In the morning, and when I can tell she is about to go pee, I pick her up and put her on the peepad. The thing is she walks off it right away, so I put her back, then she walks off it again. Then she pisses on the floor. So I say no, and put her on the pad. How come she would rather piss on the floor than the pad??? We go through the same routine, but she just loves pissing on the floor. Do you think she will walk to her pad eventually and try it out. She gets put there everytime. Its not like I don't watch her. I catch her every single time. I don't think ive missed once. What is happening?? |
Have patience - she'll catch on:) All 3 of mine are pad-trained and it was so wonderful to see the lightbulb finally go off and see them running for the pad - LOL! |
She is just a baby she will get it in time |
Well... first off, she's only 8 wks..so you cant expect her to be perfect. Just like with children, potty training takes time. And you also have to find the right method for your furbaby. Infact, my baby is 1 yr and 6mo and she still has an accident from time to time. Look for some training aides to help you out. There are sprays that you can put on the pad, that's suppose to help her want to go on it. Then you have sprays to make them not pee in certain areas...which you can use on those places she likes to go. Either way, its gonna take time and patience. Also, make note that she's probably gonna pee right after she drinks (because her bladder is so small)... so take her to the pad.. and 30-45 min after she eats...take her right back to the pad... And always praise her when she goes potty on the pad... She'll get it ;) |

FYI, I've tried some of the sprays, and they didn't seem to help (and they kind of stink). I recommend rubbing the pads in some of his urine. |
8 weeks?? You've got a long way to go. |
She's only 8 weeks old, give her time. When she walks off the pad, just keep putting her back on it and tell her "potty" or whatever command you use. If that doesn't work, watch her close when she walks off the pad, and as soon as you see her start to go, say "NO" firmly (but don't raise your voice) and put on the pad immediately. When she goes on the pad, give her lots of praise and a treat. She will get it, she's just so young right now. |
She is still so young. She may not have any idea what the pee pad is actually for yet. I would just sit with Chloe ( but she was older ,about 14 weeks when we got her ) if she started to walk off the pee pad I just keep putting her back and telling her potty on the pad , and when she did it was lots of praise and treats ! It didn't take more than a couple of times of her going and getting a treat before she realized what I wanted. She still made some mistakes in the beginning , but was very easy to train , AFTER she knew what it was she was suppose to do. I had pads in alot of places when we started so she had a better chance of getting it right. At that young age if she has to go and cant find a pad she will most likely go o the floor. Just be patient , Yorkies are smart and she will soon figure out what you want from her:) |
She'll Break My Heart Before I housebreak her! Quote:
Jilly is three. Lately she's been peeing on the floor and carpets a lot. Mostly on the tile. Sometimes she goes right in front of the doggie door! So, I did everything I could up to crating her. Finally, I gave up and put her in the crate. IT HASN'T WORKED YET! I don't know how she can hold it so long. I haven't seen her pee for two days! This morning, I took both dogs out for a walk as soon as they got up and neither of them peed! I left her outside alone for about 20 minutes and she still didn't pee. Right now I have her on my lap. I won't leave her alone. What can I do? This dog is smart and understands every other command. Is she THAT stubborn? |
It took two months to potty train Bailey - our lives were put on hold while potty training. It was hard work but VERY WELL WORTH IT. Until then, lay down some washable blankets to save your floors and carpet. Also, you can wash them to remove the urine smell which helps with training. You're on the right track - watch, watch, watch and keep correcting her behavoir until done. Be careful - do not declare victory too soon. Good luck!!! |
