Hello everyone :) I have just joined your site because i was feeling really frustrated, you see 6 weeks ago i met this lady and she asked me to please take her puppy, at first i said no because my logic told me to, but then i met him and he was adorable, i melted, so did my partner and the kids, i could not say no. i didn't want to either. He is a fantastic little man, he has added a lovely dimension to our home life, it's very playful, we all just do a lot more together, he has settled in really well, apart from the house training, i went and got the pads because he was so frightened of the outside, you see we live in a lovely school but we have no garden, just a large open space and every time i take him out he would hold his wee until he got back in even when i was out for 45 mins with him. sometimes he goes on his pad, at one point i thought he cracked it, and we always make such a fuss when he wee's in the right spot but recently he has been peeing everywhere and i was feeling really desperate and sad, because i adore him, my carpet is not great anyway, but it looks even worse now and i feel like i have lost control over the whole situation, so i joined here hoping i would be able to get some advice and learn about these lovely little creatures. One thing i am having a problem with is flea's you see i have been treating my whole home and cat's recently but one thing is with oscar i like to bath him roughly every five days because i don't want my home to smell of dog, ( and he loves it) firstly i was using dog flee shampoo and my vet said i should not do that and he gave me the drops you put on the neck but because i bath him some of the fleas are still getting on him and i think the stuff i put on is being washed off, i try to pick the horrible things from him, but it seems like i am fighting a losing battle, i was wondering if there is any good oral flea treatment you know of and do you think i am bathing him to often? i am just a little unsure. I would love any suggestions. Cheers Sally:) |
Welcome! I am glad you found this site, its full of information and has helped me find out much needed info about our little furbutts! Arent they just great! Potty training Bobby took awhile. Praising is good when he goes potty on the pad. use a code word, ours is Potty. so when Bobby would go on the pad, I would say good boy good potty and gave him a treat. He eventually got it :) he misses the pad sometimes still, he is 1 1/2 years, but he tries to make it. Can't get mad at that :) I bathe Bobby every week. For flea control I use Frontline. Its water proof. You just cant bathe them for 24 to 48 hours after applying. Good luck and can we see some pics of your little guy? |

Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I am a new member on Yorkie Talk, too. Every day I learn something new about our little yorkies. My puppy is seven months now and is potty trained. I used the pee pads and he never misses it. You just need to be very consistent. I praise him and use the word potty. The only problem that i have is that he does not want to pee in the backyard. He only wants to pee on the potty pad. For fleas control, I used Frontline. It's very good. You can't bathe him for 24-48 hours. I used it monthly. Also, I bathe him weekly. Good luck. |
my little man Hello everyone, thanks for the reply's i have been a bit tied up with trying to sort out a photo of Oscar, (taking the kids to school, after school clubs and working) i am not really happy with the photo i have put on,so i will have to sort that one out, it does not really do him justice, i have a new question though, Oscar's fringe keeps going in his eyes and my partner says i should trim it to prevent any eye infections, do any of you trim their fringe, i know some people put their fringes up in a hair band but i don't want to do that, any suggestions would be appreciated. Oscar seems to have totally gone off his potty pad too, i always make suer it's clean, and i keep taking him to it, i clean the areas (carpet ) he does pee in, i tell him that he is naughty, and send him to his room, but he just goes there now when he has an accident i don't even have to tell him to go, he just puts his head down and walks in there :( i really praise him and make a fuss when he uses his pee pad and he loves the attention, i also use stuff that takes away the smell when he pee's on the carpet, but i am feeling confused.... other than that though he is still great, great fun. |
I haven't pee pad trained a dog.. but this is what I think you should do. Make sure the dog can tell the difference from the floor to the carpet. Put it on tile or wood, otherwise it might confuse him. Also do not give him any attention for going in the wrong spot, just ignore him and clean it up. Telling him no counts as attention. Unless you catch him in the act. I think you can yell no if you catch him when he is peeing. I'm not sure though. Vanessa |
