Could use some advice Sasha is such a sweetheart....until she finds something that she knows she isn't supposed to have. Today for example, somehow she got ahold of a pack of twist ties and was running around the house chewing on them. I caught her and was able to pick her up, but when I tried getting them away from her, she turns into devil dog...growling, showing her teeth and snapping at me (she has gotten me before to) I actually had to put gloves on this time as did my mom to help get them out of her mouth. This isn't the first time shes done this either. I've tried offering her a treat or even just crinkling the treat bag to get her attention, but nothing seems to work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I just don't want her to bite anyone over it.:( |
when you have to get things away from her and she gets pissy try making a claw wiht your hand and push down on back of her neck until she is almost laying down- this mimics what her mom would do if she were very upset with her (But her mom would use her teeth) and she would have to submit. You can also try putting her on her back - this is what i do with Layla when she is being bad- it puts her in a submissive position and she usually gives up. |

Those are both good ideas. If you have more time, you might want to consider teaching her the "drop it" command. It's a pretty easy one. Get a a chew toy or something that she enjoys holding in her mouth. Say "Drop it" and show her the treat - she'll probably drop what she's holding anyway to get the treat. My Yorkie is not that smart, and it took me one session to get that one down. It's come in very handy walking him around the dirty (read: delicious) streets of San Fran. My Yorkie finds, say, a discarded orange peel on the street, and that command, uttered in my scariest voice, works wonders. |

I'll have to try teaching her those commands. She's pretty quick at catching on to learning tricks, although sometimes if I make her do a trick for something that she wants, she get a little aggitated and doesn't always listen. I guess I just need to practice with her more. |
