A one year old dog peeing in the house Tico pee's inside, usually not on his pee pad. He does poop almost 100% on the pee pad. Just wont pee on it. He goes outside well. Here's what I do when I catch him peeing in the wrong spot. I say"tico, whats this" I put his nose towards it, not directly in it, just close enough for him to smell. I then take him to his pee-pad. At this time, i also have cleaned up the pee with a napkin. I put the napkin on the pee pad. Put his nose near it again, and say good boy. I leave the pee'd napkin on his pee pad. Then I put him in his dog crate, as he has never pee'd there. I put this in our room, where he is cut off from people for about an hour. Any suggestion, what I could do differently? It is obvious, this method I use is not working to well. |
peeing Hi Lily is 7 months and we are still struggling with this. She now gets no free time for accidents. She is in her crate, on my lap, out playing fetch or walking, or tied to my waist with a leash (Iknow her signs she is going to potty, nose down, sniffing, circling) and I take her out. I am treating 90% of the time with atreat when she goes outside, and I do a very, very firm, loud No if I catch her starting in the house, lift her and take her out to finish. my frustration level is high at times - I LOVE her so much and currently she is a little angel curled up in my lap. Good luck. I'm trying too. I'd love to hear from someone who has been successful. My neighbor has a yorkie that is 8 yrs old and still potties in their house. NO WAY. |
Hmmm. I was going to suggest time outs. But you seem to do that. Hmm. I dunno. |
I am wondering if he has too much freedom. I would suggest keeping him in a small area with a bed, food, peepads when you are gone. Make sure that before you let him out into the rest of the house that he uses the pee pad or goes outside. I always gave treats and lots of praise. Then take him back there every couple hours to make sure he goes, if he won't leave him back in that area. I have never used the crate as punishment, just because I want to love it and be happy in it and not think of it as punishment. |
