am i doing the wrong thing? w/potty training i hear a lot about or heard a lot about crate training them so that they will only go outside..but i hated the fact that she wuould be stuck in the crate all day since i cannot always make it home for lunch, so i got her a exercise play pen and in it i put a pad now she always goes on there when she's in it, but when outside around the house she has "accidents" but she does tell me once in a while to go outside like she goes by the door looks at me and gets excited etc... she was doing really really good but lately i've found "accidents" should i train her in her crate now? but she'll b there all day and night...since she sleeps in her crate! I'm so confused on potty training now or is it because she's still small? she's almost 5 months:aimeeyork |
When I crate trained Maximus, if I was going to be gone for more than 4 hours, I would place him in the kitchen with a baby gate and puppy pad. Once I got home, I'd keep the puppy pad by the door so when I would see him go towards the puppy pad, I would take him outside, and he'd potty. If he went potty on the puppy pad, I'd tell him good boy. If he went potty outside, I'd give him a treat. Eventually, he would even fake potty outside just get a treat. He slowly stopped using his puppy pad. Crate training worked well for short hours at a time. |
LOL fake it to get the treat! LOL - thats a good idea i'll take the pad and put it by the door! MB used to do that too fake it just to get the treat.. I actually now that i remember i put a pad by the door and she would still have accidents but will try it again. |
I just remembered what she used to do she laid on it when i put it by the door  |
You may try to keep puppy pads in each room for easy access and see if that helps...yup...Max will do anything for a treat! He even lets me clip his nails for treats...:) |
