i've about had enough
 

lucky is almost 5 months now and is pad trained. he sleeps in the laundry room and uses the pads all the time... he only has accidents when he pee's on the edge... but we dont like to leave him in there all the time. when im home i let him come out mostly in my room on a pillow i bought for him. but it never fails, when i let him out..... he has accidents on the floor on the pillow in the crate everywhere :mad: . i put a pad down in my room next to his pillow. i use the same puppy drops i used on the pads in the laundry room and even put him on the pad every 20-30 mins and nothing. but he goes right back on the pillow and pees. in sick of it.....why cant he get it. the 1st time he did it i swatted him with my flipflop and put him back in the laundry room. well he crapped on the floor while looking dead at me. guess he said screw you lady ill fix you ....so i quickly learned that spanking him is not the way to go and have not done it again.....i give treats everytime he pees on the pads or outside..... I CANT TAKE IT .......... didnt realize having a dog would frustrate me soo.........
p.s. i still love him to death but very upset with him right now.....

yes its frustrating but just keep at it and eventually it will get better but on the brighter side ur baby issooooooooooooooooooo cute!!

Wow ..I really understand the frustration but you are right - 'swatting' them isn't the way to go - please don't ...it will lead to a very scared submissive puppy that will be fearful and only have more accidents - not to mention - it could really hurt him. When we have puppies - they are JUST like babies - no bladder control and also they have tiny bladders which causes them to go frequently -

I'm no expert on training but after having 2 myself and reading all the time - the best way to train is to physically put him on his little pad every hour - and really praise him when he uses it - if he DOES have an accident you can tell him no firmly but please don't lose your cool....They are really smart little guys and stubborn - it will happen one day but it takes lots of love and patience - some yorkies always have accidents - it's just part of having a puppy -

Sorry you feel so frustrated but trying to be consistent and aware of when he needs to go will help him learn...he doesn't do it on purpose - he just may be excited to be in different parts of the house ...I would try to give him a little more freedom and maybe when he gets used to that he may do better.....GOOD LUCK....

Since you say he goes back to the same spots I would imagine you're not using any kind of odor remover. They like to illiminate the same place every time and even if you clean it up the smell is still there. I use Nature's miracle stain & odor remover and that seems to really help. If you catch him in the act. Say no & clap your hands to get him to quit then pick him up and place him where you want him to go.

Please don't swat him again. How much does he weigh? I'm curious because if he is a little one then he certainly would not be able to hold it very long. I also noticed you said something about him going on either the pads or outside. If not very careful when using pads in addition to the outdoors you can have a very confused little puppy and they may not understand where they are to go. I would ditch the pillow. Start over. He's not dumb. Remember that. It is usually us that confuses them and I am guilty of that as well. Perhaps belly bands might help in between you taking him out every 30 minutes to an hour. Don't give up on him. Just show him how very much you love him and give him the guidance he needs and one day you'll wake up and be so surprised that he is the one that is soooo perfect and the love you have for him will overwhelm you totally! :) I know when I tell Kacee she is a good girl that she looks right up in my face so sweetly because she knows when I tell her she's a good girl she gets a little piece of cheese! :D

Yup ...When they 'get it' they know it and are so proud of themselves - just keep praising him and don't get upset over the accidents - it's only pee - we all go thru this.

It IS tough and frustrating - my oldest dog didn't learn till she was a year and it looks like the young one won't either...patience is all that works.
I think now that she is at 7 months I can see real improvement, but that's because I walk her at moment we get out of bed as the first thing, every time she has eaten, slept or played and I walk her for 30 minutes every time.
And like you give treats when she peeps and poops outside :)

thank you guys for all the advise.... i think i just needed to vent this morning since i had just clean up pee again off the pillow i had just washed yesterday when he pee'd :( ...... ditch the pillow?? why ??? is the pillow a bad thing..... I WILL NEVER SWATT HIM AGAIN...... because i know he doesnt understand that.....thats why i focused hard on the praise and treat method...... sometimes he sleeps with me and has never had an accident( THANK GOD) but i take him outside 1st thing and he does his business......even if i oversleep he'll hold it til i take him outside.... because i work and commute i'm gone from 7am til 630 pm so i dont crate him i leave him in the laundry room with gates and pads that he uses faithfully..... my kids are home for the summer but there 7 and 16 so ones on the phone all day and the other watched cartoons all day....so there no help...and they should have to train my boy anyway......why give him more freedom ???? isint that more room to pee ??? and more frustration on me...... what is lucky trying to tell me ??? i dont understand why the pads dont mean the same thing regardless of what room hes in..........

I don't know if this really helps...but moving the pad confuses them I believe...when I first got Maximus home I gated him with 2 pads in the living room (the secondwas because he wanted to pee in a certain spot...so I clean with Simple Solutions and placed a pad there) I slowly moved the pad over alittle bit till the 2 were side by side and that is where he pees in the living room..except now on 1 pad....at the same time I put a pad int he hallway and one in the bedroom for when he slept with us...once he was using the pads and only the pads for about 2 weeks...I allowed him to walk throughout the house with us when we were home...no accidents UNTIL I pulled up that pad inthe hallway...he would still go pee there..I am not sure if he didn't realize it was there or what...but it took him about 2 weeks to stop..and now he knows pee in the living room ONLY and/or the bedroom...but sometimes he will walk all the way to the living room to poop on THAT pad...lol!!!, and if I pull up a pad to mop I better watch out because he will go to that area and cry that he has to pee if I forget to put it down...he is too lazy to go to the bedroom (don't think he likes the idea of bedroom pad much)

Why ditch the pillow. It has pee smell on it. and even if you wash it still does that the dog can spell and we can't. The only alternative is to soak it with some kind of odor remover (available at petsmart) and hang it outside to dry.

Why more freedom? He might be somewhat marking his territory. It's like our cat everytime we put down fresh litter she must pee in it. How old is your little guy and is he fixed. In the laundry room he knows where he's supposed to go because his scent is there. When he's loose he doesn't know where to go cause there isn't a scent trail.

Pads? I'm not sure why they don't mean the same thing because we take logan outside. i would recommend taking a pad he's already soiled on and placing it in the living room. The smell of his own illimination to draw him back to the spot the next time he has to go.

lucky is 18 weeks and is about 5 1/2 pounds....... ive had him since he was 8 weeks. forgive me guys but now im a little confused, should i have pads in the other rooms or no ?

Try to remember too that he is still very young and Yorkies are not known for being quick to potty train - kind of the opposite actually. I don't really know anything about the pads - Tucker uses the doggy litter box which his breeder started him on. He does well with it but still has his share of accidents and he is almost 9 months old. My two previous Yorkies were also close to a year before fully "getting it". Patience is the key and lots of love - they really do want to please us, sometimes there's just a communication gap. And like someone said, its just a little pee - usually two paper towels suck it right up out of my carpet - no big deal. Good Luck and try to remember that the love you get is more than worth a few months of extra clean up duty and they're so much easier to get along with than children most of the time...

It took me almost 1 year to potty train Katie.

Sorry...the point I was trying to make is that Maximus wasn't allowed to go into other rooms without supervision until he had no accidents for a couple of weeks...initially I was just getting him to try and understand you pee on the pads...once i achieved that I pulled up the one in the hallway...that way there was one for where he sleeps at night and one for where he spends the rest of the day while I am at work. I think I made a mistake in putting that pad in the hallway...I would only keep 1 or 2 down....1 in the area he is mostly in and 1 in you bedroom if he sleeps with you so that he isn't walking around the house (unless you don't mind)....but I know Maximus used to wander around in the middle of the night and play..but now is just wants to go back to sleep after!!! ...but he will get get and good luck!!! Maximus is 6 months and 5.8 lbs and he didn't get both pee and poop till about 4-1/2 months....he used to pee in the right spot almost immediately but the poop took awhile

This explains alot - he's very very young - some take longer than others...My oldest Chanel trained perfectly in 2 weeks on pads - I had 2 out for her and she did so good she ended up with one in the bathroom - my YOUNGEST Cheri had 4 pads and it was hit or miss with her....It's all in the yorkie and your little guy is still young.

Just keep a pad in spots he can get to easy - I never knew how hard they are to train till I had my 2nd girl - so I can say from that experience you have to find what works for you and him and go from there - but yes...TREATS And PRAISE when he goes on his pad will be a great motivation for him.
