(cause he is still a puppy) please help me oh and i watch its me or the dog and the dog whisper and i have tryed some of that stuff on tv and it worked a little bit but he is so focused on the other dog |
What you are dealing with I think is a dog that is under socialized and very afraid. I go with what the Lady on Its me or the dog says to work fear rather then the other fellow. She got far a better understanding. Socialization window closes at 16 weeks but that does not mean that you can not make things a great deal better. Dogs do not mature up until they are 3 years old and so you have time and even after three you can still make changes it just much harder. I see if you can find a positive trainer that can help guide you through some rehab work. If your interested in doing some reading I can give you a list of some good books. JL |
The lady on "It's Me Or The Dog" handles this by socializing the dog and teaching it that other dogs are a good thing. Start off far enough away that your dog is calm, praise him, give him a treat, then move closer and do it all over again. When he gets upset, immediately take him away and start over. Walk back and forth with him in his comfort zone and then move closer and closer. I haven't tried it, but it seems to work. |
