He Loved & Now he HATES My little baby Louie has been coming everywhwere with me since I got him at 2 months old. He's been riding in the car with me everywhere-I take him everywhere I go. All of a sudden now he hates riding in the car. He's had no bad experiences, I don't get it. He wimpers the entire way to our destination and shakes and his tongue is all hanging out...breathing heavy. I am so confused. I have tried several times to take him out of his puppy seat and put him on my lap but it's no use. He continues to cry and he doesn't stay still. He's 7 months old now and this started about a month ago. I don't know what to do. Any suggestions? I want to continue to bring him everywhere with me, but it's becoming impossible because I feel like I am torturing him the min. he gets in the car. |
That's a tough one. All I can think of are a few questions or suggestions. When he started that, did you take him to the vet or some other place that he wouldn't like that was overcrowded or in very heavy traffic with lots of semi-trucks or honking cars? I would try again taking him on some very short, pleasant trips to quiet places like parks that he would connect to enjoyment. :) |
It might be because it's too hot when he first gets into the car, and he doesn't really get over that heat. Maybe bring some cold water along to give at the beginning and see if that calms him down. |
I was warm up/cool up the car before he comes in it with me. We never get in it unless it's nice and cold or nice and warm! ;) This didn't start with anything unpleasant either..actually the first time he did it we were going to my aunt's house (he LOVES my aunt) and she lives 7 miles from me and I've been taking him there on a daily basis since he was 2 months. I have no clue what's going on. I wish he could talk to me and just tell me what's wrong. I don't know what else to do. |
Try something simple. Start all over. Start by going out and getting in the car and sitting a few minutes. Take something along he likes to play with. Just sit there a few minutes and then go back in. Try that a few times. Then try going just five minutes down the road, slowly, and then go back home. Do that a few times. Next, try going for fifteen minutes down the road, then go back home. Do that a few times. It may be simple anxiety. Try this and see if it helps. :) |
