Litter snacks ARG........I was having such a horrible time housebreaking Avery that I talked my husband in to agreeing to a Doggie Litter Box. Now, neither of my Yorkies go near it and I've done all I know to do to encourage them. So, now they are both barricaded in the kitchen (my husband REALLY hates that. You know, having to climb over it to get out of the kitchen!) and guess what? AVERY is eating the litter!! This is going from bad to worse. He's eight months old, isn't it time he got the idea??? We've had many dogs, as well as a Yorkie who is now four, and I've never had a problem. I'm consistent and firm, so what can be the problem??? |
If your older one is trained to go outside then you are confusing him. Keep trying. I have never had a male dog inside but my female was so easy. I have tried to train another since her and it has been difficult. |
I use wee wee pads in the box and I use a treat (freeze dried beef liver treat cut up really small) reward system. Roxy is 8.5 and TJ is 6.5 months. I am finally making progress but I too have had to re-limit where they are allowed to stay and play until this potty thing is 100%. GOOD LUCK! |
Did you teach your 4 year old to use the litter or is this something new and you are trying to teach both your yorkies? |
My older, Gracie, holds it till she gets to go outside. She's NO problem whatsoever, but she IS four! The puppy goes outside if she does, but inbetween he goes on the floor. I thought I could try to get it through his thick skull to go in the litter box if we weren't home or if he didn't get our attention. I give him treats when he DOES go outside, but he sure goes on the FLOOR more than he goes in the litter. He's having a great time eating the litter.........eeeewwwww! |
Dogs like people, they learn at different speed. It might just take awhile longer for Avery to not pee in the house. Enclosing him in the kitchen is a great idea. Easier to clean pee off kitchen floor than the carpet. You can try putting some of Avery's pee the litterbox? |
Hi, could you please tell me where you got the beef liver? i've been searching for all the supermarket and they all looked at me like "you eat that stuff??" Thank you Stacey |
