Squirrel hater I need all the advice i can get. I have an 18 month old female. I've been very careful to keep her as quiet as possible (not barking when people come to the door etc). I work from home and can't have clients hear a yippie dog in the background. Here is my problem. Lately, she's been going nuts at the squirrels in my backyard. She is convinced she can climb the trees and get them. In fact, she has gotten so upset with them that the minute i let her outside she barks endlessly. She actually vibrates in anticipation of getting to go outside and bark like made at the squirrels. I'm an early riser and she's waking my neighbours. How can i get her to settle down? |

Take her out and treat her with treats fro being quite... yup I know that muzzles artifically doing it for you but it a start. Teach her some self control with the nothing in life is free protocal.. you can search that on line. You can scare teh critters out of the yuard before you go out as well. JL |
Lucy is the same way...you can't even mention the word "squirrel" or she'll go insane. At my parents, if you even stand near the door she scrambles to get to the door to go out and chase squirrels and she just barks barks...ugh. My parents totally egged her on though, another thing they didn't listen to me about! |
Squirrels Are His Nemesis I'm convinced the squirrels torment him by crawling half-way up the tree and have a stare-down. Sometimes he's racing around his fenced area so fast concentrating on the squirrels that he runs into the fence. That doesn't stop him though. I can see why invisible fences wouldn't work with the ones with strong hunting instincts. |
Squirrel hater's club Hehehehe, it seems my Kiwi is not insane. I will try and bring her out on her leash to see if that works. I hate the idea of using a muzzle. And it's also good to know i'm not insane either.....i'm not the only one that thinks the squirrels mock my puppy. Evil, evil squirrels. |
Be Careful and always keep an eye your dog! Before we had our area fenced, I took Johnny out on the leash but found myself gazing at the leaves. He took off after a squirrel and pulled my arm, leaving me with a pinched nerve and months of physical therapy. So, watch carefully! No, Kiwi is not insane...just doing what comes naturally! |
