How to transition from piddle pads to yard pottying? We have only been training on pads for the three weeks we have had Rocco, but last night my husband asked how to transition Rocco to the yard for potty time. He's almost 6 months old now, how long should we do the pads? I have no idea!! He is the first dog we have ever used piddle pads with and I had never thought about it before. What have you guys done? How do you know when to do it? Last night I saw him sniffing around his pad and took all 3 dogs right out to potty....but he seemed to want to stay and use his pad instead of going outside. Any help would be greatly appreciated, we have no idea what to do!! On a funny note, our oldest dogs are apalled he uses the pads! The oldest has even covered up a poo on the pad, it was hilarious!!:animal36 |

re: potty pads I would slowly move the potty pads toward the door you want to use to take the puppy outside to go potty. So eventually the puppy will go to the door....then as you see the puppy going near the door or pad you can take it out right away to go potty. Eventually you can remove the pad as the pup gets more used to going outside. :D |
Help!!! My little Rocky baby is almost 10 months old now. We had him going on the pads and it wasn't too bad, but he was still just going wherever he pleased as well. Soooo...this weekend, my hubby and I started him outside. He is doing a really good job so far with the peeing. It's the pooping that he isn't "getting". Any suggestions?:D |
It's working! Hello! Sorry it took me so long to respond. It's been several weeks now and Rocky has been doing sooooo good in the yard. He still has his mistakes, however. I found that by keeping him on a schedule with eating and drinking is helping, big time! We also tried something pretty gross, but it seemed to have worked. The first day, a lady at petsmart told me to try to have a man (my hubby) pee outside where we wanted him to go. It took a few hours, but it worked. Now he is going there everyday!!!!! Also, I made a potty bell and every time we go outside, I ring it. He is just now starting to smack the bell lightly when he needs to go out. He even woke me up a few times throughout the night to go!!!! :) Usually, he sleeps with us in bed and doesn't move until we wake up, but there are nights that he does wake up to go. It is possible to make them go outside....try it. It's so much better than those potty pads! I will never use them again!!!!!1 :D |
