Hi, I read in a book, that when the pups bite each other, the one bitten yelps, and goes away, so as his owner, you yelp, turn and give him your back, ignore him, you can add a NO as well. Giving him chew toys is a good practice, something that he will delight in chewing are the tendons sold by merricks called flossies, I cut one in half and my 2 each get one of the halves. This will keep him occupied, content for 30 minutes or so. I would also distract him to something else, perhaps a walk, a game of catch with a small squeeky tennis ball (sold at petsmart or walmart). Like some have advised, perhaps if NONE of the above helps, take an empty soda can put some coins in it, this has been known to deter bad behavior perhaps it can help in this case, when he bites say NO and shake the can. Good luck, if all this fails, talk with a dog trainer, perhaps your vet can advise you to a good one, or even some at petsmart are willing to give a little advise for Free. ;) |

Our Morkie is now just 8 months old. I am not sure what happened but at 7 months he just stopped hard bitting. Now he may do a tiny light nibble while trying to get you to play but that is it. Maybe it had something to do with teething. He was at his worst between 4-6 months. BTW We gave him lots of things to keep busy chewing on. Some of his favorites were the raw hide rolls, Dingo bones and Sam's Yams/Bichon Fries. He likes rubber toys like the Cuz toys. He especially likes the one that is a cat. it has a kind of bar in between the 2 round ends that he loves to carry it around with. And there is a Nyla Bone that is Blue with little bumps all over it. He does not eat it but likes the way it feels in his mouth to chew on. A small baby size wash cloth dipped in water, wrung out and then frozen is fun to. |
i think it's just a puppy thing and they out grow it.:) |
The next time he bites, mouths you, put him in the kitchen with a gate and ignore him until he calms down. When you see him laying down release him. When he does it again do the samething. No yelling, no telling him no just ignore him. He will make the connection that when he bites he gets taken away and is ignored. He will change. Watch. |
Biting I seen this problem on Caesar and It's me or the DOG, they both handled it differently. When ceasar got bit he would immediately grab the dog and put him on his side. He would not release him until he was calm and laid there. After this the dog did stop biting people. On Its me or the dog the lady would scream OUCH and then turn around quickly and ignore the dog, basically letting him know that he hurt her and that if he bit he was not going to get any attention. And of course that dog stopped biting also. Of course it does take some work, but yorkies are very smart and can catch on easily. I find these shows very helpful with training techniques. Another thing, do you rough house with hi allowing him to bite when playing. This is the way alot of puppies begin their biting. Its play to them. So I would also recommend no rough housing with him either. Have a good day! |
Give her something else to bite when she is doing that. I read somewere, that when a puppy leaves his siblings to early, that behavior will accure. Reason why, the fights between siblings happening between the ages of 6 to 8 weeks, teatch them about pain, and agreation, as well as being gentle, while socializing with humans. trixie uses her mouth to play, but never her teeth. that is probably due to the fact that she stayed with mom, till the 14th week. |
Whenever I need to teach Deegan not to do something I shake a pop can with pennies in it. They hate the noise.... You just always have to keep it close and say no while shaking it when he's doing something you don't want him to. Give it a whirl... Good luck! |
