Most of you will prob think I am a bit nuts... :D Ok people might think I am a weirdo or a crazy but I have an idea and I hope it will work. Supposedly dogs raised outdoors are easier to housebreak than dogs raised inside. Well I certainly wont let my babies stay outside with their puppies, but thought of an alternative.... I plan to use sod in the puppy whelping pen. I will have a large crate lined with soft bedding and an ex pen attached around it when they start getting mobile. My husband is going to build a box lined with plastic and I am going to put sod inside. This will cover the whole inside of the pen. The plan is that they will use this as their potty area instead of using wee wee pads. This way they know the scent of grass so when it comes to potty training outdoors, they should train faster and easier right? I have read about this somewhere in a book somewhere I dont remember the name of it but I thought it was a great idea. What do you think? Am I totally off my rocker here and this a dumb idea? |
hey it's worth a try! You'll have to keep us posted on how well it works! I'm really interested to hear! |
Very interesting. Seems like it should work. Let us know. |
yeah I am sure it sounds weird, but I think it will work. We will see. I Will get pics of the set up when its done, I wont add the sod until the puppies are getting around.. |
Ooooh-maybe I need to get some sod covered puppy pads. ;) But I think it is worth a try. |
lol yeah I think its worth a try too. Anyone try this before or something simular? |
Interesting! Logically thinking, it just might work:D Please let us know if you were successful! |
I have a catalog that has a pee grass thing...if I remember right it has some kind of wood base with grass on top...interesting....why didn't you think of this sooner? lol |
I think it's genius. Way to think out of the box, so to speak. Let us know how it works. |

Thank you! I was worried what people would say but curious if anyone has tried it. I will have to make sure to post pictures of them playing in the grass, hehe! |
I can't see why it wouldn't work... be sure to post photos. :) |
I have a associate that uses sod on the deck for the dogs as the back yard not fenced and the deck is. I wondering and it is a wonder not based in facts but just a thought.... what about bringing in a illness before the puppies have there shots. Ok follow for a second and maybe someone with more kowledge can help. What if you bring in a piece of sod that has parvo on it... we do not know were and what been on the sod before you get it. It is a great idea and one that should work well. JL |
Yorkie Mother - That is def something to consider. I would be taking the sod from my backyard and I am pretty positive I do not have parvo in my yard. |
