Potty Accidents Hello, I have a 6-month old male Yorkie named Prince. We've been training him to go potty on the pee pads and at first there were many accidents but for the last two months he's been really great when he has to pee (pooping is a different matter). He hasn't had any pee accidents in all that time until today. He just peed on the couch! I'm not sure why he would do that. Is this common? Do they have setbacks like this from time to time? If so, do I revert back to crate training until he stabilizes again? FYI, he loves to sleep on the couch when we're home. I put a blanket on the couch and he likes to lie there. Because he sleeps there I didn't think he'd pee there. What could be going on? Thanks for your help! --Beatrice |
I'm not sure about the re-crating bit. Hope someone else comes up with an idea. I didn't trust any of my babies until they were at least 1 yr. and not even then. If I couldn't watch them like a hawk they were in an ex-pen. As for the couch, be sure to treat it with an enzyme cleaner, otherwise he will go there again. Ugh! Not what you want. Joanne |
Oh god my Mocha is the same age, and for the past 3 days she has not had an accident. However, just now she peed on Lulu's pillowbed! Goodness I was sooooooooooo angry. |
Thanks for the responses I guess I should leave him in a pen when I can't watch him. I think he does a good job when I'm there so he can get a treat but if I'm not watching him, he doesn't care where he goes. :( |
I am afraid it is looking like the nature of the beast!! LOL. I have a 10 month old boy, I got him at about 4 months and I couldn't belive it when I had him pottytrained in about 2 weeks. I trained him to a litter pan but with no litter in it just a wee wee pad. He would just run to it and go and jump out and wait for praise and his treat. That was working great until about 2 months ago, he has completely regressed. Now he goes sometimes in his pan, but then the next time he will go right next to it. He has also pee'd on his bed, which I couldn't believe. I don't know, but I think I am going to start confining him to only the living room in the evenings and put his pan in there so I can watch him until he gets it again. It is frustrating...good thing they are so darn cute!!! |
