Crate question I have a question regarding the crate training. If I am going to crate train and also bring my yorkie to work with me, is there a crate that I can use at home and then bring to work? Can I use a travel type crate? I know that they have the ones that collapse and are light weight, but they are not like the wire metals one where they can see you. These travel kind have limited visibility. Wanted to see if it mattered. Thanks |
When we were crate training we used the wire crates at home. I liked them and if your dog is actually having accidents they are super easy to clean. Now we just have one gigantic travel crate that they share and they like it so much I leave it up in the house with fluffy pillows on the bottom and they sleep in it most of the day. They are completely trained though and we only use that to keep them contained if we leave them at my mom's or something. They don't seem to mind that it has the screen rather than the wire, in fact I think they like that it's dark in there. I wouldn't recommend it if your dog is going to have accidents in it though. The wire ones are NOT easy to collapse. They do collapse down, but I would not want to do it every day. The "travel" crates honestly aren't that much easier - I have to have my husband do it because you have to be really strong to do it (It still has a metal frame under the fabric and it's very sturdy - it was really expensive!). I would recommend getting 2 crates. |
If I were you, I would get two crates and leave one at work and leave one at home. I prefer the wire crates. If you really really only want to have one, I would suggest a travel vari kennel because they are MUCH easier to transport than the wire kennels. Here's a travel vari kennel that would be easy to transport from home to work. If you yorkie doesn't have a problem wtih going to the bathroom in the crate, you can also get one side up...but make sure that's only if s/he doesn't have a problem wtih going to the bathroom in the crate, in which case you would need to get the smallest one possible: Petmate Fashion Series Kennel Cab - Intermediate - Carriers - Dog - PetSmart |
Buddy of mine had a hard crate at home and for travel and work she had a soft sided bag. (one that can go on airplanes) it was big enough for the pup to stay in durning travel and could go from car to office to the trailer no problem. I have a large hard sided one at home and for the car I have the small fits just them and pull it for the office or visits. JL |
Loki HATED the plastic crate, we ended up getting rid of it. He was fine in the fabric one and the wire one (more than fine, when asked to go to his crate he immediately curls up in a ball and naps, i love him) but he cried and barked and freaked out when put in one of those plastic ones. Again 2 wire crates are going to be your best shot for "crate training" If you are looking more for simple confinement at work, this is what we have: Dog Crates: Sof-Krate N Series Dog Crates at Drs. Foster & Smith I like it because the top and sides open. Who knows why they like it but they do. They are sleeping in it right now. :rolleyes: |

I am sitting at work right now just finished my day and it is 8:30 at night. In my lap is on yorkie having a nap as having been in a crate today do to a long day of packing and organizing for a trip we need cuddle time. Work thankfull allows day vists once and a while of one wee one that needs cuddles durning long days. JL |
