When dogs switch things from short term to long term they can loose the thing you thought he learned. Alos one thing changes in his world as it still new can toss it all out the window. Just do it again. Good luck JL |
WOW!!!! That is like deja vu. I also have a 10 month old puppy and I trained him to his litter pan with wee wee pad inside (no litter) in about 2 weeks. He did great, no accidents ever until about a month ago and he started having accidents. Sometimes he would go in his pan and other times not. I ended up taking him to the vet to make sure he didn't have a UTI or bladder infection or something. Of course, he checked out fine, which I was very relieved about. I just wish I knew what changed. I started to try to retrain him again and that seems to be helping. I started using the Housebreaking Aid spray again on the wee wee pad like I did in the beginning. He is doing better, just keep working with him. The other new development is that he has started to take his pad out and play with it, never when it is dirty only when clean, which is irritating because then the pad isn't in place for him to use for potty. Let me know if you are successful and what happens! |
Is he neutered? |
yes he is neutered. Yeah my boy also plays with his weeweepad... also only when clean. he tears it up and plays with the stuffing. Also- he eats my wall and bites my hair. Thank god hes cute or id kill him!!!!! LOLOLOLOL |
Oh wow...lol Well I would start potty training him all over again. Keep him confined if you know you can't watch him. I'm sure he'll get back on track in no time. |
Relapse This seems to be a common trend. My 10 month old was using the litter box with newspaper only because she would tear up the wee wee pads, Now she'll pee on the paper sometimes, but poops anywhere. If I take her out first thing in the morning I can usually get her to go if the grass isn't too wet!!! I'm just afraid of the winter and when it rains if I don't get her back on track. Last night I confined her to just mt bathroom with the litter box and she was sleeping in it!!! |
potty training relapse I have having a similar problem with my 1 year old Yorkie. Just this morning he was put outside to potty, my husband went into the bathroom and came out to find that Milo had peed on both his chair and mine. He has never done that, but has on the carpet. Milo will do very well for weeks and then have a week where you can't trust him at all. I am getting very frustrated with this whole issue. Milo is a very smart dog and it makes it hard to think he is just being lazy:mad: |
I would first make sure there isn't any medical reason going on, take him to the vet and make sure there isn't a UTI. Also, it is not uncommon to have relapses. Some may take up to two years before you can totally 100% trust them. Some are trained early and never go back. Also, there is the possibility that he is starting to mark (yes this DOES happen in neutered males :;)) I would start from the beginning again, and watch him like a hawk, whenever he tries, take him to the litter box. There are also belly bands that are helpful if you can't watch him like a hawk ;) |
oh wow my lil boy is 4 months i hope this doesn't happen to me lol :) :aimeeyork :animal-pa :animal-pa :D well good luck on that ;) :animal-pa :animal-pa |
If your dogs tear up their pads, I would suggest getting one of those pad frames to hold it. Sometimes my Mocha will scratch at it and it'll tear, but this has only happen twice in 2 months since I brought her home. |
Well actually i bought one of these... and it did NOTHING. he still tore it apart.. and i made it all nice and snug!!! I put down another pad in my bedroom. When i brought him home i had 3 in the apt. So now im back to 2 which isnt terrible. He had 3 accidents in 2 days but knock on wood he has been ok since then. Then again... when he pees he usually pees on his front leg.its pretty gross cause then i have urine prints all over my house. |
Goodness! When Mocha pees, it's EVERYWHERE on her :( Makes me think to make her really bald down there. As for now, her shower/baths only last as long as 2-3 days, and then she smells like pee again. I'm desperate! Sorry to hear your dogs tear up the pads anyways... Mocha did not have accidents for 3 days, and I was ready to take her outta the fence at night, then just now she pees on my other dog's pillow bed. How annoying is that?! And it seems she's only "bad" when I'm not around :( |
that name mocha is so cute!!! Yeah i put pads down again in my bedroom and the accidents stop so i wonder if really he is being lazy. its really gross that he pees on his leg. And also his baths also only last 2-3 days and then he smells like piss and strong dog. EEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! |
