Desperate for advice on barking at night Our yorkie is a year and a half old and since weve had her she slept on our bed. we have just moved into a rented property and she will have to now sleep downstairs in the kitchen. We are very worried about her barking at night as we dont want to get complaints and have to move or get rid of her. :( Last night we went to bed at 11.30pm and Gracie was still barking at 12.50pm. I couldnt sleep and it was really stressful my partner went downstairs and slept on the sofa with her to keep her quite as she was shaking. We really dont know what to do with her and I dread going to bed at night. I lay in bed hearing her bark and when she goes quite i pray for her not to start barking again. no such luck! What methods could you suggest to help with her barking? We are with her in the afternoon and all evening as ive just had a baby. |
What about putting her in a crate in your room at night? That way you are nearby and she won't feel alone. I have to lay down next to the crate until mine falls asleep, but once she is asleep she sleeps all night. I know some ppl put the crate level with the bed so that they can see you. She doesn't understand why she used to sleep with you and now she can't. Maybe it would help. |
Why does she have to sleep downstairs now? If she's been used to sleeping in the bed all this time, it's no wonder she's barking. She's wondering where you are and why she isn't in bed. Maybe the crate or at least a dog bed in your room would help. I doubt that will be an immediate fix, because she'll probably still paw at your bed and want to come sleep with her people, but she might get used to it in time. |
my Coco and Cody start barking early in the morning..sometimes, it will start at 2 a.m. They never slept with us and have kept them in the mud room at night so they should have been used to this by now. I got them when they are 3 months old and they are 13 months old now so I do not understand this barking at very early in the morning. My best sleep is around 3 or 4 in the morning until I get up around 6 and usually, at 3 or 4 or every earlier, that's when they start barking. |
I agree why must she sleep down staris the owner of the building knows you have a dog and should be aware that she a member of the family and therefore entilled to go anywere she please in your home at any time. If you feel she can not do so start her crate training and leave the crate in the bedroom at night. Dogs are soical creatures and feel better when they are with their family. JL |
