My Yorkie doesn't like to be leashed or walked Hi everyone i been having problems trying to walk my dog. it seems like he is very scared of the leash and when i take him outside for a walk he just sits down and does not walk. Does anyone know a good solution to get it to start walking? he is extremely hyper indoors and never sits tight. he jumps all over hte place. But when he is outside he doesn't even want to move and like to be carried. he is 6 months old. |
He will get used to it the more you do it. It is important to just keep doing it. You will want him to be comfortable with it when he is older. He will "get" it!! |
I went through the same thing when my dog was little. It's just new and will take some time to get used to. Try putting the leash on him inside for awhile, and after he's used to having the leash attached, start taking him outside. Too many new things at once might be a lot for him to handle! Good luck! |
Well here is the thing he hates his collor. i have a fulll body colar for him and when i put it on he runs to his bed and tries to bite on it and take it off |
i have this problem with my ted. he'll just stop walking and will lay down in the middle of the sidewalk! i can't even get 1 block and he'll lay down a couple times. i think they just have to get used to it. I praise him when he gets back up. people laugh at me all the time. lol |
5Keep the leash loose when walking your puppy, Keep a squeaky dog toy in your pocket to get his attention occasionally, Praise your puppy when he walks towards you. Immediately, give him a treat and tell him about his good behavior. Keep talking to him, bribing him with treats and walking along slowly at the same time...You might want to start practicing at home a few times. |

Yeah i have tried that too but nope he doesn't like to move.....once he is out of the house is a more scared then a cat......haha.....but when he is in the house he makes it like he is the king. |
Hot Rod hated the harness we bought for him at first. Once I got a vest harness he was fine. Never had any issues with the leash. With Maggie, I walked her on the leash inside the house for a couple of days. She took to it pretty easily. |
What I did with my Max is I took him to a hallway in my apartment. I put the harness on him and kept in on for 15 mins. a day and then attached the leash. He of course was biting on the leash quite a bit. However during this time I had treats in my hand. I would give him one treat when the harness and leash was on just so he can associate this as a positive experience. I would take a treat and put it under his nose to smell. Then I would start walking in front with the treat just in front of his nose. When he got to the end of the hallway I would give him another treat and praise him. I repeated this a couple of times and a couple of days. He then started associating the leash and harness as a fun time. We then hit the outdoors where he had no problems. In fact he was trying to run ahead of me. He is now 6 months and he loves his walks. I hope that helps. The Dogs Obedience Training Blog |
